What? Title IX covers sex based discrimination. HS volleyball players aren't losing spots to boys but to younger girls. That isn't a Title IX violation nor is age a protected class under strict scrutiny.

Curious- why do you think that your daughter didn’t make the team because of the 8th grader? Maybe it had nothing to do with the 8th graders and it was another high schooler?? Just curious why you would assume that?

NP. If a number of 8th graders made it onto the team, we can assume that a number of potential high school players were displaced. Whether the OP's kid was close to the cut off line or not, we don't know, but certainly the 8th graders displaced some high schoolers.

Why not allow WMS to have a team and compete as WMS in the high school freshmen league?

Reports are that this happened this week. Several sophomores/juniors cut from JV and replaced by 8th and 9th graders. 9th, okay I get it. But 8th? Put them on the freshman team.

There is a group of 8th and 9th grade girls that are very good at VB and soccer. Many of these girls are also on that really good flag football team. Watch out for this to happen in soccer in the spring as well.

No dog in this fight, but this really should not be allowed - 8th graders playing on JV. I understand 9th graders playing for their home school at any level or 8th graders potentially playing on the Freshman team, but my heart goes out to the Sophomore and Junior girls who were cut and replaced by 13-year-olds. Especially when volleyball teams are small to begin with.

The Arlington Coaches should know better and do better.

Should not be allowed, seriously? those MS kids earned those spots fairly.

If you don't like the rules, you should vote for the school board members who favor in changing that rules.

No they didn't. They don't even go to the school, they can wait until they are freshman. WTF?

We know for a fact that 8th graders made the YHS and WL teams and bumped actual YHS and WL students. It remains to be seen if they actually enroll at the school. And these 8th graders didn’t stand out as superstars during tryouts either. So inquiries about the coaching and club bias seem to be valid. Lame and certainly doesn’t help team morale or loyalty when those 8th graders can play club and most of the Fall clubs have many advanced opportunities for them. Whereas there are nearly none for HS students who don’t play for their teams. Agree that the coaches need to do better. There was little to no loyalty shown to returning HS players who dedicated their time and energy to the teams in previous years and to their school. And who maybe don’t have the resources to afford or play for club. It’s very sad at the HS level. Club I get it. But HS where the pride is to play for one’s school…. Very misguided and hurtful and ignorant of the coaches.
