Look at Sidwell’s 2024 IG page. There are two students going to HBCUs (Morehouse and Spelman). There are GDS and STA students going to Morehouse. All of these students are in Jack and Jill.

Very strange, some off to very elite schools like Cornell, Penn, Duke and WashU, and then others in very mediocre places like Pomona and Lehigh! Don't see HBCUS!!!

It's not just the black kids, it looks like all the students are people mediocre colleges, with a few elite schools

DC private education really fell off

No one said that. However, DC private school graduates from the Black elite are probably less inclined than others to attend a university in DC.

This is a very solid list of quality schools. I'd say a ton of these are "elite schools"-what is Pomona if not elite? The bar must be pretty high these days for what people consider mediocre, cause, in my opinion, these results are stellar.

I couldn't imagine paying 60K a year for privates, and my child goes to a state school, at that point you wasted over half a million, for what exactly?

I can and did, because my child got a ton out of it. She's practically walked into a finance career with good pay, because the alumni network is very strong and tight. The smaller classes got her glowing recs when she first was thinking of research, and the school has been nothing but supportive, even post grad. Meanwhile, my state university is nearly $40k and just had a ton of people, so the alum network is pretty lackluster and the resources while I were there were abundant I'm sure but super quiet.

Anonymous wrote:Since when does Georgetown have the wealthiest student body? It's probably up there because its endowment is so low so they have slightly fewer fully financial aid students, and fewer athletes on scholarship, but still, though there is a group of incredibly wealthy, it's otherwise a quite grounded student body.

It has one of the wealthiest. NYT had a good article laying out what % came from the top 1%, top 10%, top 20% etc. I believe roughly 20% of GU's student body comes from the top 1% and the majority come from the top 20% of households.

This entire thread opened with OP saying Georgetown has the wealthiest student body in the country. Not "one of," "the." It's just not true.

Here's the NY Times tool: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/01/1...n-the-bottom-60.html

Median family income:
1. Colorado College ($277,500)
2. WashU ($272,000)
3. Colgate ($270,200)
4. Washington and Lee ($261,000)
5. Trinity College ($257,100)
6. Middlebury ($244,300)
7. Colby ($236,100)
8. Georgetown ($229,100)
9. Bates ($226,500)
10. Tufts ($224,800)
11. Wake Forest ($221,500)
12. Pitzer ($216, 600)
13. Davidson ($213,900)

Anonymous wrote:This promises to be an entertaining thread. So far nobody seems to have any actual insight into UMC AA families. Also, OP, even wealthy people have to apply to Georgetown. Nobody just chooses to go.

NP, I mean, full pay with a 1500 SAT, they're getting in. Everywhere.

HAHA.... yea. No. That's not true. The only "full pay" AA families I know with 1500 scores sent their kids to Spelman and Howard. Both applied to Georgetown. Neither admitted.

You’re wrong. I know a black family that’s full pay with a high stat kid at Georgetown right now, graduating next year in fact.

So this thread summarized:

- Jack and Jill is still a thing in 2024

- Elite black families send their kids to all kinds of different schools. Just like elite whites, elite Asians, elite Hispanics, etc…

Which seems like a waste, but it seems people in this thread needed to get their preconceived notions knocked a bit.
