College and University Discussion
Look at Sidwell’s 2024 IG page. There are two students going to HBCUs (Morehouse and Spelman). There are GDS and STA students going to Morehouse. All of these students are in Jack and Jill. |
Black elite are no fans of Howard |
It's not just the black kids, it looks like all the students are people mediocre colleges, with a few elite schools DC private education really fell off |
No one said that. However, DC private school graduates from the Black elite are probably less inclined than others to attend a university in DC. |
This is a very solid list of quality schools. I'd say a ton of these are "elite schools"-what is Pomona if not elite? The bar must be pretty high these days for what people consider mediocre, cause, in my opinion, these results are stellar. |
+1. These people are just being jerks. |
I couldn't imagine paying 60K a year for privates, and my child goes to a state school, at that point you wasted over half a million, for what exactly? |
Maybe locals want to spend their wings |
I can and did, because my child got a ton out of it. She's practically walked into a finance career with good pay, because the alumni network is very strong and tight. The smaller classes got her glowing recs when she first was thinking of research, and the school has been nothing but supportive, even post grad. Meanwhile, my state university is nearly $40k and just had a ton of people, so the alum network is pretty lackluster and the resources while I were there were abundant I'm sure but super quiet. |
Pomona is mediocre? |

You’re wrong. I know a black family that’s full pay with a high stat kid at Georgetown right now, graduating next year in fact. |
|
So this thread summarized:
- Jack and Jill is still a thing in 2024 - Elite black families send their kids to all kinds of different schools. Just like elite whites, elite Asians, elite Hispanics, etc… |
Which seems like a waste, but it seems people in this thread needed to get their preconceived notions knocked a bit. |
