I'm panicked

A lot of people are telling you to relax, but I find it hard to believe that parents (especially on this board) are just sitting back, letting their child make this decision without an ounce of worry or thought on their part.

An ounce of worry is different than being panicked.

This is where my child is stuck. Loves both Florida and Georgia and can't decide.

Did he visit both? They're so similar. What major?

Yes, visited both and will major in business.

My son also business. A lot of UF business classes are online if that makes a difference. Did you know that? Kids still love it there, don't get me wrong but sort of a negative in my opinion.

I have heard that, and it is a big negative in my eyes. Is your son considering UF?

He didn't get in UF, but he had said beforehand that he would iikely choose UGA over UF even if he got in. Not totally sure why- maybe because he does know a few kids at UGA, and visited and liked it. I was surprised he didn't get in, but it's ok! Now he's deciding between UGA and Wisconsin. I feel like he' more of a cold weather guy so UF would be so hot. Not that UGA is cold, but they at least have a fall and seasons, etc. Does your child know anyone at either school? Apparently people can also tour the business schools if that would help. Do they want Greek life?

Yes panicked was a dumb word to use. Feeling stressed, albeit good stress. I am panicked over some health stuff, so that is a word I shouldn't throw around lightly.

I agree with you on weather. I would pick UGA over UF for multiple reasons. He doesn’t have close connections at either school but knows one or two classmates who have been admitted to both, but have not yet committed. UGA and Wisconsin are both great, fun places. Tough choice.

Keep in mind that there are 5 more weeks to come to a decision. This may mean 5 weeks of stress.
My kid went to their dream school (acceptance rate around 10%) in a competitive major. They were there a week and decided it was not what they expected. They transferred to a competitive state school (in state) and the whole thing was a learning experience.

In my opinion, UGA has a better climate, prettier campus, and Athens is a much better college town. If you follow the UGA social media pages, the school does a great job organizing events and promoting programs on campus, and the students seem happy. Facilities/dorms/food seem nicer and nothing feels overcrowded. UGA seems to have a good academic and social balance.

Did your DC apply to Wisconsin?

He has travel and a senior spring break trip and then a sports thing he doesn't want to miss first weekend in April. Do these second visits and/or tours once they're admitted really help seal the deal? He visited both a year ago w just us went out briefly. The return visits are for games, meeting kids in frat, one seeing tour of business school, and I guess just more overnight w kids who are students there.

How is this even a choice?

Michigan is the only school on that list to pick.

UGA is no where near the other two in terms of getting a job after college. Parents are just stupid.

Lol do you have kids at each school? I know many UGA graduates making 60-80-100k. Getting a job isn't based on undergrad. It's who you know.

I never visited any prospective colleges and went off the photos in brochures because I did not have the money to travel or parents who would take me.

For graduate school, I went off a recommendation from a past student I met at work.

Both worked out.

It still seems odd to me that people visit so many schools before they go. Lol

Possibly Michigan??

Did he get accepted? They received 105,000 applications. Deferred means rejected for Michigan.

Yes. they can help--especially overnight visits. The kid is very focused on deciding.
