So it wasn’t a healthy cross-section of America? It’s so much better at a place like Oberlin, where future factory foremen, violinists, military leaders, social workers, and accountants all roll up the sleeves of their vastly different garments and learn how to co-exist with a wide array of necessary people. |
| and then go after a baker. Didn’t see the students stand up for that the small business family Maybe Wake is better. |
You may have misread an earlier post--it was "cross-section", not "cross-dressers". |
Finally, an honest, level-headed post. Thank you. |
You left out something. I'll fill in the missing word for you: My white, left leaning daughter is very happy there. |
I don’t think anyone takes issue with the statement that 3 decades ago, when the alum poster was at Wake, it was not particularly diverse, as most southern schools were not particularly diverse. But Wake has improved and is now a third non white and is working on further increasing diversity, notwithstanding the demographic make up of op’s prospective student tour. Frankly, I don’t consider her a reliable narrator. |
I doubt that this is true. WFU is well known as a haven for UMC and upper class preppies. |
As her friends from high school who are not white also attending. From Baltimore, a majority black city. Imagine that. |
(Nor OP) You may want to look in the mirror before criticizing others. |
| NCS is filled with this type of girl. My DDs attended NCS. After one DD visited Richmond, a group classmates derided her saying “I won’t apply to any school that is in a Confederate state.” This moral smugness is quite common. |
that includes 25% (white) Hispanics right? |
Which prep school did she go to? And did she live in Roland Park? |
? ICYMI: many Latinos are white. Have you ever filled out paperwork? I’m non-Hispanic Caucasian…as compared with the Hispanic caucasians. That’s how demographics work because…Latino is an ethnicity, not a skin color. This post is about optics. The vibe at WF is rich, white preppies. Using Latino numbers to bolster diversity is a stretch since most Latinos are…white. |
I’m not providing any more identifiable details because it simply isn’t relevant. |
Sweetie, every college puts students of Hispanic heritage in their own category and considers them a group that adds diversity, and an underrepresented minority. You apparently have an issue with the entire system because you think they look white. That’s your issue and has no bearing on the actual diversity of any particular college. |
