Wake forest--not sure you could get whiter or preppier

OP here. I literally can't see how this is true. We saw next to no-one who wasn't country club style white people.

Do you know what common data set is? It’s far more reliable than your observations of prospective students.

In my experience a college never looks as diverse as it's common data set stats.

There are lots of white appearing kids walking around who have some drop of minority blood so they get counted in the stats.

Indian person here—whether a person styles themselves as preppy, nerdy or punk, does mot make them more or less south asian. Now wealthy country club may not be the scene your kid is looking for, and that’s fine. I went to Exeter (and wasn’t preppy), and chose a school in a city to experience a different scene.

Pocs don’t really do visits unless the school invites for it or it’s for an interview with admissions

You are truly an idiot.

Thank you I was thinking same.

No, you are an idiot.

Pretty gross your daughter would say white-washed. Just saying. We’re a multi-cultural family (south Asian), and just because someone likes to dress preppy doesn’t mean they’re white-washed. It’s not like preppy belongs to white people, and people of other races or ethnicities have to dress differently.

Thank you!! I’m hard to offend, but OP’s daughter’s comments truly offended me.

Anonymous wrote:We visited this weekend. In a large auditorium of 100+ visiting families I bet there were 3 black families and zero Asians. We toured the campus--girls are beautiful, boys are "bros." My son loves this scene so he was in heaven. My daughter was turned off. the wealth was crazy-so many designer purses and $300 sneakers on the moms on the tour and on girls walking around. My kids attend the Cathedral schools so we're no strangers to wealth or preppiness but this was next level. Am I missing something? We literally saw ONE south Asian girl the entire day and she was prepped out (or as my daughter said "white-washed"). Was everyone else hiding in their dorms?

Apparently you didn’t miss anything. Who takes note of the race, outerwear, and accessories of a roomful of people and then the students on campus. You sound next level.

OP, could you specify what the exactly correct percentage of white people would be at a university? It seems like you do know this figure and I've always been curious what it is. TIA!

Daughter sounds insufferable and I am guessing she was raised this way. Sad. Wake is a great school and a lot of nice hardworking kids. Interesting that people bash families who are not receiving FA-you do realize that helps everyone else who needs it get a better package. Also everyone is sending their kids to top schools hoping they will have an easier life than they do. I am hoping this for my kids. I am also guessing there are a lot of families there like ours. Not rich but we have saved for years and between that and middle class salaries no aid. I am actually getting fatigued knowing what we have sacrificed to save for college and someone can walk in and have zero saved and same salary and their kid gets a free ride. Oh well.

You should ask Wake. they have a new EA admissions window this year for only first-gen families, aimed at getting less white people on campus. I'm not sure how many white people is too many but they are quite open that their current percentage is too high.

I disagree. DD has many friends who are POC by heritage (a black or Hispanic parent) but look 100% white.

We just went to the Wake tour last week. There was definitely diversity. Maybe not Jackson Reed level but there are certainly diverse students. A lot rich kids too.

Well, op seems to have a knack for bringing out the worst in people.
