At least 8 people shot & killed in Allen, TX mall today

No breaking heart for me if those killed vote Republican. At this point it’s clear GOP is the reason for lax gun laws. Really. You vote GOP, then I really don’t care if you are shot. Just as I stopped caring for anti-vaccine folks who died of COVID. Yes, these people are being fed lies but at some point they need to take responsibility. They have agency.

But let's get one thing straight: it's not, Not, NOT the easy access to assault weapons.

A little girl got her face shot off. Thoughts-n-Prayers.

Also, for fun: Look up "buy AR 15" on Google. Some amazing Spring sales!

Um, mental health is likely a gigantic factor in why any human being would mass murder strangers in cold blood and die suicide by cop.

And many people don't have access to therapists and psychiatrists covered by insurance. Lack of mental health access is a huge problem in the U.S. I know people in that part of the insurance industry.

Mental health, yes, absolutely. But for all the talk and agreement on mental health needs we have done nothing. It’s still near impossible to get fast high level care. Waiting lists years long for outpatients. Inpatients; forget it, wait for days in a hallway, then be send home to outpatient care.

However, other countries do have similar rates of mental illnesses.

The easy access to weaponry is a U.S. phenomenon. Not even the gun ownership. Access, and what you are allowed to do with it.
That is where we differ.
Difficult access to mental health care.
Easy access to wide ranges of weapons.

“The FBI’s “review and triage of the subject’s social media accounts revealed hundreds of postings and images to include writings with racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist rhetoric, including neo-Nazi materials and material espousing the supremacy of the white race,” the bulletin reads.

The document also says the alleged shooter was discharged from the military in 2008 amid “mental health concerns.”

Investigators believe the shooter was a neo-Nazi and an “incel,” according to an internal email circulated by Texas law enforcement.”

Also, not everything a white supremacist does is necessarily motivated by race.

The writers really need to work on this season's plot. The ratings for "inclusive racism" just aren't there.

Oh, honey. It is HISPANICS in general.
And, it has everything to do with the values they have.......

"Flores felt that her religious, anti-abortion and pro-border security views were more conservative than she’d ever thought and more in line with the GOP."

"Like Alcazar, Hispanic GOP women in the Rio Grande Valley don’t have one specific reason for why they ultimately switched parties, according to interviews with several Hispanic GOP women officials across South Texas and GOP operatives. They want more border security or are staunchly against abortions. They feel their husbands, family members, neighbors and friends that are Border Patrol agents or are in law enforcement are being unfairly villainized by Democrats. They worry Democrats are hostile to the oil and gas industry, which provides many good-paying jobs in the state. They worry the left is forgetting family values and the value of work."

so, the military knew he had mental health issues but he was still able to buy a gun. MAGA.

Just look to the political-Economy of Latin America and southern Europe.

Hispanics are VERY different from the ideals of mayflower

Fundamentally, america is an Anglo-Dutch enterprise…which is very different from Spain and to this day there are marked differences.

I see it in my own husband....Not the violins but the seclusion. When we first got married he met with few friends a few times a month. I love that about him that he would just hang out, go to a game or whatever. But as we've been together for 20 years, I don't think I could name one friend that he actually talks to more than once a year. Typically just wishing them. Happy birthday via text. Does not play any sports. He works from home and I do all of the shopping. I mean he'll go out with us as a family but independently he has no personality or life outside of his computer where he does his work. Just minimal contact with any of his colleagues after COVID.

Wow! Way to make this horrific tragedy about you! Shame on you!

It's the gun.

I think the problem is not that killers are seeking out AR-15s. It’s that AR-15s are creating killers. The act of shooting one off for practice or fun leads to homicidal ideation because it only has one purpose: To kill many human beings very quickly.

Excellent. So can we agree not to vote for politicians that reduce/eliminate/refuse to expand mental health coverage?

I'm not a 1 issue voter, or a 1 party voter. And I don't just do nothing about causes important to me then complain on Anonymous forums. If expanding access to mental health care is important to you, activate. Start a group, a movement. Reach out to your current elected officials, the media. Almost nothing is impossible. It can take years though.

I already do. I have been advocating for expanding health care access on the Hill for eating disorders since 2003.

But I am not the one who brought up mental health access in relation to gun violence. I don’t believe expanding mental health access is the solution to gun violence, I think ending easy access to weapons is the solution.

That’s the problem with Republicans. They disingenuously throw out mental health care as some solution to gun violence when they know they are 100% unwilling to fund it.
