| Name a staff member who puts students first. I challenge someone to provide a concrete example. |
Virtual worked well for my kids but they also had involved parents. |
"puts students first" in a list of what, exactly? Everything? LOL. |
By involved are you saying that you don’t have a child with a disability who was denied services and accommodations and you also had a parent who didn’t have a job to supervise the child all day? Great for you but your ignorant post doesn’t reflect that many students who struggled with online learning also had involved parents. |
I guess ask Dr. McKnight. It’s her slogan. However, as a parent of a student with a disability, every IEP meeting this year has failed to put his needs first. He needed support in a class but was denied because the school doesn’t support the class with support staff. My child qualified for compensatory services. We have been waiting five months for services to begin. My child has been bullied which interferes with his engagement at school and desirability to attend school. School staff did nothing to stop the bullying or even apply restorative justice practices. My child has gaps in learning from online learning but his teachers are not helping to fill in the gaps so his track of progression has stalled. Dr. McKnight has had the putting students first as a slogan since July. My question how have MCPS staff been trained to put the slogan into practice? |
How about she starts with the Complaints from the Public? Maybe the open DofEd OCR cases? Why did she, in my opinion, blatantly discriminate against the Asian community in the magnet program? She and the board even went so far as to sign off on a clear case of discrimination where an AA magnet kid's grades were tampered with when the parent clearly documented the discriminatory techniques used. That P and teacher are still there. Lucky for her it never made the press. She has a history of AA (and only AA, but not all AA - just her friends) first. Those are the ONLY students she cares about, imho. |
We're also happy. Many just enjoy complaining, but in my experience, MCPS is made up of many teachers and administrators who have gone above and beyond to put kids first. |
+1. This board would have you believing MCPS is horrible. Its not. Sure there are a few bad apples here and there but that would be true anywhere. Are there things that MCPS can improve upon, sure but this is true anywhere. Whats really needed is community engagement, support, and effort. But many just like engaging in complaint. Ask them to run for the school PTA, MCCPTA, attend community meetings about BOE and county council candidates, or do extra homework/practice with their kids and you’ll get crickets. |
Crickets who do all that you listed and end up with a child behind years and needing remediation to go to college. Why don't you pull up the numbers for what happens when MCPS children graduate. The data doesn't lie. |
Only if someone care to look at the data. No one looks at it and they will continue to discourage parents from looking at it. |
Yes pull up data. Data is a really interesting thing, in that if you don’t understand it, the source and how it was sliced it can make you believe a lot of things. So please, show us the data of all these families monitoring their kids K-12 education, being involved in the school community and running for PTA board whose kid graduated and then needed remedial classes in college. I’ll wait….. |
+1 MSDE and OCR have open cases before them for discrimination and retaliation against students and families. Letters of Findings are being handed down and Resolution Agreements have been signed by MCPS for violations that students are deserving of remediation. Many students have waited two schools years for remedies and MCPS is still dragging its feet with compliance. Current Pending OCR Cases: https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/investigations/open-investigations/index.html * search by protected class and state The Letters of Findings and Resolution Agreements are accessible with a FOIA request. These are data points to show how little MCPS puts students first and how they discriminate against students. The deceptive practices and retaliation families have experienced will cause these crickets to complain till MCPS becomes compliant. |
Unbelievable! What about putting these students first? |
Exactly, then they'll sock puppet a torrent of posts on their pet issue drowning out any dissent. |
I guess MCPS needs to hire a bunch more central office staff. |
