TJ class of 2022 college destinations

A lot of these acceptances are overlaps. There are about 30-40 seniors who are extremely happy right now, with the rest having various levels of disappointment.

11 to MIT and 7 for Stanford.

At least four of these are overlaps.

Maybe some minimal waitlist movement then, but who the hell knows after last year

18 acceptances for Berkeley! This was a tough year for Berkeley OOS applicants.

He was really sad when he did not get into TJ several years ago. We did no prep, so I guess he never had a chance.

I have an 8th grader that has applied. Even if she gets in, I’m inclined to not send her. Especially given all of the drama around admissions and the insane parents in the classes of 2023 and 2024.

My TJ kids did no prep; many TJ kids did not need to prep.

It is easier to get into colleges, especially UVA, from base schools than from TJ but the education my kids received at TJ was worth it to them. They did not go to TJ for college admissions.

It is plenty easy to get into excellent schools from TJ for kids who did not need to prep. One of the reasons that admissions stats from TJ have been crumbling in recent years is because you have too many kids roaming the hallways who are there specifically because the prep complex make them seem brighter than they are.

Yep - as I've said before many times, we'll end up with approximately half the senior class extremely disappointed as to their outcomes.

That would be a damn shame - we need more sane parents at TJ and it's part of the agenda that's being executed right now to make TJ seem unpalatable for families who aren't insane.

It's likely you'd have many like-minded individuals in the same class and TJ's previous PTSA president who was captain of the nutjobs (HJ) resigned in disgrace back in the fall, replaced by someone much more community-oriented.

Are these typical acceptance numbers for TJ?

The numbers were higher but they started going down beginning about 10-12 years or so ago.

Confirmed. When publications started ranking TJ #1 in America, beginning with US News and World Report, that began a flock of families that were interested in TJ not for the educational value but for the prestige. Consequently, while test scores went up slightly, student quality overall went down, the student body homogenized, and TJ students became less appealing to elite schools.

Actually, as number of Asian students increased, acceptances to top 20 schools decreased.

I'd blame it more on the woke trend at elite universities that wanted to spread the wealth. It was easier to do so at the cost of Asian students vs Whites.

Works for them. They keep increasing application numbers year over year, becoming more selective and therefore more competitive.

I am an Asian and I just don't get all the complaining about the "woke" culture. Good for these universities for trying to diversify their student pool. And this is coming from a woke Asian mother of a TJ kid.

Where can one find the list of college acceptances for TJ seniors? Where are people getting their numbers from (like 57 for CMU)?

The kids are benefiting tremendously from being exposed to different cultures and learning how to communicate with people from different backgrounds. It's scary to many parents because they are worried about their kids coming home and rejecting their insensitive worldview.

Hugely important. The biggest antidote to racism is collaboration with people who are different from you.

That is good for the 2025 class but what about the rest of the school?
