Several TJ students have legacy status. It’s not limited to privates… |
Probably 1/10th of what Sidwell parents have if that. |
Amazing destinations! |
+1 TJ is a safe haven for brilliant, nerdy kids. I still do not understand the elite college motivation myth that outsiders keep bringing up. |
11 to Chicago! |
Only 3 MILITARY academies are operated by DoD. Coast Guard is academy operated by DHS and the Merchant Marine academy is operated by DoT. |
I think the results actually prove the exact opposite - that Asian students aren't discriminated in admissions - which also affirms what we've seen with our own eyes during campus visits. Congratulations to the students. |
You look at the college acceptances from when the Asians were a minority to Asians gradually increasing in numbers, the college acceptances generally have worse outcomes although still amazing. For example, when Asians were a minority, TJ had about 20 acceptances to MIT, routinely had 15+ acceptances to Princeton, 12+ acceptances to Harvard etc. |
Your language is somewhat confusing for me so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. But, since you point out the increase in numbers, I think we would both agree that Asian students are currently over represented on T20 campus' compared to the number of Asian households per the census (even the most recent one that apparently over counted Asians and under counted other ethnic groups). I'm not opposed to that as I believe schools should build the student body that meets their institutional needs. I'm simply stating that the admissions data doesn't support the narrative that Asian students are discriminated against by top colleges. This destinations of this TJ class also affirms that. |
The acceptances would be much better without discriminations against Asians in the college admissions. 11 acceptances to MIT is amazing but objectively fewer than 20 that were common before Asians became majority at TJ (there are numerous other examples such as Princeton numbers going from 20+ to fewer than 9 etc.) and increased "competition" does not explain away the definite reductions. |
TJ has been taken over by clueless asians who think high test scores are the ticket to life. That's why more and more people are rejecting it out right and college admissions are abysmal for the supposed top 1% of students in the region. High test scores have 0 correlation to successful life outcomes. Colleges who select based on endownment return potential (Yes this is a fact) know this. Leadership and personality matter. |
Stop attacking and stereotyping Asians. You are showing precisely the mindset of racists practicing discrimination against Asians. TJ always required many factors in addition to test scores. You are ignorant for spreading the lies that the admission was entirely dependent on the test scores. |
Tell me a public high (magnet whatever) that has a better overall reputation and better college acceptances than TJ? |
I agree the results are very impressive. However, this statement is just an opinion and can't be proven with data. Colleges have institutional priorities and admit the students that meet their goals. For example, U Chicago recently prioritized Veterans for their incoming classes. That may or may not have resulted in fewer Asian students being admitted, but it has nothing to do with discrimination. |
And I have a bridge to sell you. |
