Tom Cruise’s free pass

Anonymous
How is it that Tim Cruise has managed to avoid the stink of being a father that abandoned his child? It doesn’t seem like any other major celebrity could not see their child for a decade, through that kid’s entire childhood, and still do interviews where no one asks about it and do hit movie after movie. No one ever asks him about it and it is just so weird that he walked away from a 5 yr old kid forever.

Because of Scientology.

People are too scared to ask because Scientology will make up terrible stories about them, go through their trash, and all the other things this cash-grab cult does.

But is great Katie and her daughter got out of the cult. And I’m glad Nicole Kidman got out, but she sadly lost her kids to Tom.

Trust me. It’s better Tom wasn’t around to indoctrinate S.

Please. Katie and her daughter are lucky he’s not after them.

I think he's not being held accountable because Katie clearly wanted to get away from him and get Suri away from him. Her dad is a divorce attorney. The news coverage made it seem like a planned escape that was kept secret from Tom.

The dude has had two wives dump him under odd circumstances. I think reporters don't bring it up because it's clear to the public that he's not a good guy. Leaving Katie and Suri alone is probably happier for them.

I'm sure it's because it's a good thing that they got out. Him abandoning his daughter in the long run is good for the daughter. I am really, really disappointed in Nicole Kidman for not getting her adopted children out and basically abandoning them. I'm actually surprised that she doesn't get asked about them. I think no one wants to get the attention of the scientologists.

Are you giving Katie Holmes a free pass for alienating her child's father?

Do we think Tom Cruise pays child support for Suri? (She's 17 now.)

Do we think Katie had it put in her divorce decree that Tom was never allowed to talk to Suri about scientology? What if the answer's yes, he did anyway, and Kate said no more access to her?

Also, to answer OP, he's apparently VERY charasmatic. He remembers everyone's name when he goes on a talk show, he sends his costars cakes for Christmas and fancy shoes on their birthdays, etc. Dude is personable.

Actually, that seems totally plausible.

No one wants to make trouble for Katie Holmes.

Oh boy, here comes the Kate Middleton conspiracy theory crew trying to blow up everyone else now…

He keeps himself at arm's length: it's all carefully curated photos, highly PR-ed public appearances and rare interviews. He stays in his lane, is very good at what he does, and knows his credibility only extends that far. He's ASD/high IQ, I suspect, which is why his wives have a hard time living with him, but also why he's been able to be professionally successful for so long. That type of person doesn't do well with the unpredictability and social obligations of family life.

Scientology is not the cause. It's one of the by-products of his black and white Aspie thinking. Just like Elon Musk, who also has autism, and also has had a few failed marriages and is not the primary parent of his many children, desperately sought to buy Twitter to control his social output. Men with autism frequently cannot handle the impossible free-for-all that is normal socializing. They need it to be codified, restricted, controlled. It's Scientology for one and the remaking a social media platform for the other (see also Zuckerberg with Meta - same urge to create a social platform he can understand and feel comfortable in).

Sorry how are you qualified to diagnose Tc with autism?

Yes, I’m guessing it was in the divorce contract that he not contact Suri. Katie’s escape was well planned and they had the Nicole Kidman model to see how Tom/ Church of Scientology handles the kids in a divorce. They used his behavior with Nicole to figure out what to say in the divorce decree.
I think Tom’s wives are on the end of Narcissitic Abuse so I completely give Katie a pass the way I would anyone attempting to protect their kids from a cult.

If you don’t, that is on you.

If she refuses contact that is on her and not abandonment.

I don’t think Tom has ASD but he does have that personality type you often see in addicts. Very charismatic but takes things to extremes — often when an addict gets off the booze, they go full in on something like religion, exercise, diet, etc. some people just like living in an extreme version. He seems to be that way with both work and Scientology.

But I think everyone realizes he didn’t abandon Suri— Katie rescued her. And I would bet that the divorce decree traded an iron clad NDA for Katie for her getting 100% control over Suri with very limited access for him. After what he did to Nicole w/r/t the kid, she knew there was no such thing as shared custody. Suri just turned 18, I think, so I’m wondering if/when either she or Katie will speak out about all this. Eventually one or the other will likely say something. It’s always been a little weird to me that Nicole doesn’t say more.
