Who apologized? I saw a bunch of tweets disappear . . . and lots of crickets . . .

We can go around and around and around, but you have your perspective (clearly liberal), and I have mine, which is moderate.

Your outrage is hysterical, by the way, as you continue to perpetuate stereotypes with hostile language.

There's no way you're a moderate dude lol. And I agree there hasn't been enough of a forceful condemnation of smollet.

I honestly think people don't even know what to say. This is such a horrible horrible thing to do. Its so demoralizing to have watched happen. It's just revolting. I don't even know what I'd say if I was a public figure.

I'm a moderate and am no "dude," by the way. So I'm guessing by your word choice you're either a Millennial or young Gen Xer.

Let's learn a lesson from an older Gen Xer: Moderates are incensed by the extreme agendas on both sides. When the Smollett incident hit the news, all - and I mean ALL - of my very liberal pals, regardless of gender, race, sexual identify, were appalled and immediately took his side. My conservative pals questioned everything. So they, too, had an immediate reaction to the incident.

My moderate pals sat back, watched it unfold, and asked questions along the way. I listened to both sides rant and rave and offered an opinion or two - but mainly stayed neutral. Hostile language, such as yours, came from both sides.

So yes, friend, I am INDEED a moderate.

Enjoy! This is probably from your childhood.

What Smollett did didn't affect anyone other than himself and waste a few hours of detective time - and nobody has demonstrated that anyone was harmed because of a few hours of police time spent looking into Smollett's case.

Trump on the other hand is in fact harming the lives of millions of Americans with his policies, for example lives lost due to his awful response to the Puerto Rico hurricane.

Why does one have to "trump" the other? If both sides are wrong - both sides being opportunistic - why wouldn't you acknowledge this as either a lib or conservative? Smollett did more harm than you think, by the way, and if you can't see this, then you need to return to Psych 101 and learn about the collective psyche.

There have been a number well publicized events designed to stir up racial tension. I think the best example of this was the catholic schoolboy at the Mall with the native American-- it's sort of an inkblot test in that anyone can see anything in that interaction. These incidents appear to be orchestrated or at least exploited by people seeking to make a point about trump supporters.

Now you've got Smollett, an actor who thinks his career is on the line, and he thinks to himself, what's one more incident? It will shine light on how evil trump supporters are, while boosting my career in the process. He's obviously very wrong, but in the context of many of these incidents (not as dramatic as the noose but nonetheless dramatic) I think it makes sense why he concluded that it was a permissible thing to do. He's not the first or the only one. He's just perhaps the most idiotic and most clearly attempting to profit.

You can’t understand the difference between an orchestrated hoax for personal gain that used the media for amplification and a chance encounter between a kid and two other parties that was grabbed onto by the media to advance a narrative? Those are two entirely different situations.....try to exercise your critical thinking skills once in a while.

There difference between premeditation and a crime of convenience is only in the degree of intention. Otherwise it's the same. Mark my word, within 6 months, Smollett will be a hero of BLM and the far left.

I don't think you understand what the lefts real reaction to him is. This is unforgivable. He's done so much damage to real victims. Everyone I know is just askance about it. He is equal to trump now, in terms of being vile and unwelcome. I hope he goes to jail and that's the consensus in my circle.

The only one feeling badly for Smollett or trying desperately to justify it are self loathing whites. Black people are done with him. He's becoming the brunt of jokes from prominent black people, like Charles Barkley.

Well you are definitely not from my era though you correctly identified it. Dude can be anyone, no gender really.

You do not talk like a moderate. How do you feel about trump? If you speak about him with as much vitriol as you seem to have towards liberals I'll believe you. I'm not the original pp here though. The dude post was my first post in this exchange.

OMG. Are you for real? What Smollett did actually *did* affect people other than himself - victims of violent crime everywhere are now less likely to be believed because of his stunt. The same thing happens with false rape accusations. Real victims of rape are then less likely to be believed. It's astounding that you actually claim he didn't harm anyone else.

And "a few hours of detective time"?? Even the CPD said that the MANY HOURS spent on this wild goose chase could have been better spent tracking down ACTUAL criminals in Chicago.

Chicago Superintendent of Police:
"To stage a hate crime of that nature, when he knew as a celebrity it would get a lot of attention … is just despicable," Johnson said.
"Absolute justice would be an apology to this city that he smeared, admitting what he did, and then be man enough to offer what he should offer up in terms of all the resources that were put into this," he said.

That's how they feel right now. But the PR machine will change that bc its not in the best interest of BLM and other similar factions. Colin Kaepernick's spokesman is now repping Smollett. Just stand back and watch.

You need to listen to the Chicago Police Superintendent's message. You are wrong.

I'm not a sympathizer but I am the one talking about context. My only point is that the narrative on this will change, likely within 6 months but probably sooner, and it will be about how 1) the cops are corrupt and who are you going to believe, and 2) even if he did, maybe its ok bc he has had to put up with racism and probably deserves some kind of compensation. This is how media narratives work. This is uncomfortable for some people, but you are manipulated by the media. Your feelings on this will change.
