Anyone who takes a plane these days can relate to Dr Dao's story. United has brought this on themselves. I used to fly all the time on United and still have over 200k miles with them. I used to feel a good deal of loyalty towards them, but I am just done, done, done at this point.

pp here. I did too and never had a problem. Have they really gotten that bad?

FWIW, I've flown hundreds of thousands of miles over forty years and have never got bumped from a flight. I can't excuse what UAL did, but it seems to occur to no one in this 75 page thread that none of this would have happened if Dr. Dao had just GTFO the aircraft when asked to do so. What an attitude.

Let me guess, big flyer, you're a white male. Try flying while age 69 and Asian. He had no obligation to leave that flight. And people like you defending United are the problem...people who believe the "authority" is unquestionable. That's how we find our civil rights stripped away.

Yep, handsome, polite, charming white guy. You really ought to learn to read. I did not defend United, but you really need to GFYS for making this about race and civil rights. It's about getting bumped from a damn airline flight. The plane doesn't belong to you? You GTFO when asked.

So sick of the victimhood meme around here.

So sick of the white privilege around here. You just don't get it, do you? White people are treated differently in the US. Only white UMC males really fail to see that because they are never treated poorly. You think that it's because you're handsome, polite and charming. Guess what? Women and minorities can be attractive, polite and charming and still be treated poorly. It happens routinely every day.

White males are far less likely to have their rights and privileges whimsically stripped or be the loser in preferential treatment.

UAL violared company policy and confract of carriage laws. The CEO has admitted that the plane was nof oversold, that the plane was fully boarded and that the additional passengers were in fact employees using personal passes. Because the flight was full but not overbooked, no passengers should have been bumped. Because it was fully boardsd, the IDB rules do not apply. To bump passengers there would have to have been one of the conditions in effect where they could refuse passage to the passenger, but Dr. dao had not committed any of those infractions. And employees using personal passes fly space available and should never bump a paying customer. UAL has illegally assaulted a passenger (deceiving the Chicago Airport Security into forcefully and illegally deboarding a passenger without cause) and violated the passenger's rights. This doesn't happen to privileged white UMC males regardless of their behavior.

Go ahead keep making yourself look ignorant.

You mean rich Anglo men? Let's be clear. Lots of Caucasians don't cut it, especially if you have a difficult foreign last name.

Exactly! Where is the troll who said the airlines were only allowed to offer up to $800 or $1350?

PP here. Sorry, Delta. I think the amount you mentioned is the old amount (valid at time of the Dao incident).

Different PP here. Makes me wonder (even more) about policy. Do you think other people who "barely do anything" but are escorted off are scapegoats for employees wanting to travel last minute? You hear/read so many stories.....

PP here. This isn't the first time people (airlines) have made false reports to police (thinking they won't get caught) - I am especially curious how this part plays out. It is telling that they think they are above the law.

United was caught with their pants down this time thanks to Dr. Dao's fellow passengers' videos. Otherwise they would have tried to lie their way out.

DP. A no-cost ticket on United wouldn't interest me. Sorry.

Me either. Dead and done to me. I'm never flying them again.

Maybe? It will probably halt ... for now... because of all the attention. But next time someone is escorted off, everyone will be paying attention to who gets on instead.
