Look, you can wear whatever you want, but don't be all surprised when someone judges you based on what you are wearing. People do this all the time whether it's these items or tattoos or nose piercings or sneakers or whatever. For example, you might not want to wear a MAGA hat to a job interview. You might want to keep your personal beliefs out of the public arena, especially when they are perceived as extreme (either extreme, doesn't matter).

Lots of people understand this and modify their dress. Others want the attention. If you are wearing a MAGA hat, expect a certain kind of attention. Apparently they got their attention. The everyday DC people know that's what they want and they stay away from all of it (whether it's black Israelis, Native Americans, or kids from a Catholic school). We don't engage. The Covington chaperones should have told the kids this (and told them to stay under the radar with clothing choices). Just saying.

Huh? You're putting the hate group Black Israelis on the same plane with Native Americans and kids who go to parochial school?

I didn't say they were on the same plane (you said that). All I'm saying is that they are all here seeking some kind of attention and the best thing to do for anyone in DC is not to engage with these groups because you never know who is crazy and you just don't need to get into it with anyone. If someone tries to engage you, stay away.

This is one of the points I tried to drive home with my teen. One among many, but the most important when it comes to safety.

All of this - seriously. This was the first things I taught my kid when we went started visiting DC back when she was a preschooler.
Don't engage, stay away and mind your own business.

I think the kids just didn't know any better and it's likely the adults didn't either.

I agree.

I also just don't understand why these kids had never been taught that is NEVER acceptable to behave this way on a school field trip, or at a national monument. I have NEVER been on a field trip where kids acted like this. https://twitter.com/i/status/1087484002863325185

My kid would be grounded forever if he acted like that. Seriously.

Phony. Here’s betting your kid has already or will act like that, and it will be all over Snapchats that you never know exist.

I doubt it. I send my kid to a school that actually supervises field trips.

Lucky you. My FCPS middle schooler went on a field trip to DC two years ago and many of the 8th graders were harassing teens from another area who came to DC and we’re wearing MAGA hats. They yellled names at them and blocked their path in the sidewalk. The chaperones sheepishly laughed about it and did nothing to stop it.

ARe people really saying this whole display is justified because of what 5 BHI people said? These kids should never have been left unsupervised for a moment.

I think it’s adorable how many people are saying their teenage sons would stand by idly and be called vile names and not react in any way like the gentlemen they were raised to be. I highly doubt any of you actually have teenage sons. Be real.

That is awful!

At least three images of actual blackface (not just face painted black) at this high school

Jesus would be proud.

I have a teenage son. We lived in an area with a lot of mentally ill homeless people so, yes, my kid knows not to engage with crazy people.

The school is bringing in security tomorrow in response to threats of physical violence. I have no doubt the students will be met with some lefty SJWs at school tomorrow doing the needful, whatever they feel that is. We shall see.

Yes, these poor kids. My heart breaks for them.

Do the homeless men call him a faggot and a product of incest, and tell him to leave the country? Do they call him the n word if he’s black? Or anything even like that? Wow. That is unlike any homeless person I’ve ever encountered.

You have not encountered many who are mentally ill then. These guys were black supremacists and the stuff they were yelling was crazy. I hope I have raised my kid well enough to not act like an idiot and engage and escalate a conflict with white or black supremacists. See how the adults interacted with them? These students had no business acting like idiots and making a conflict with crazy people in to a thing.

You’re right, I have not. Neither have most teenagers. But I do know that many teenage boys would not show complete self restraint for an hour in that situation. That’s just human nature.

If they don't have self control, they shouldn't have been hanging out in a big group, acting like a bunch of hooligans, with zero adult supervision.

Poor innocent boys (sorry if this was already posted, I walked away at 40 pages and now it’s over 80).

I think there are people who are hired to post about how innocent the kids are on here.

ANYTIME there a thread where a kid or kids was OTT behaving badly, posters come out of the woodwork to talk about how the parent has clearly been letting them get away with bad behavior and needs to discipline or the kid will go to jail, whatever. Even if the kid has a dxed special need!

There is no way that all of those posters would actually think that the kids behaving so badly at a national monument is acceptable.

I speak for myself and what I viewed on all the videos.

The Smirk Heard Around The World. This kid is the new Mona Lisa.

Not paid - just a mom sick of the lies I hear on msm.

You are an idiot. You clearly do not watch basketball. The kids are showing a "three-pointer" sign.

It is ridiculous that jerks are searching the web for ANYTHING that will paint Covington in a bad light. And, they are coming up with nada.

Same here.
Pretty ridiculous that a kid is being crucified for smiling and we have liberals who have physically and verbally attacked Trump supporters and we hear crickets.
