The sick part about the rightwing gaslighting on the MAGA teens is how many centrist journalists were complicit.
The Atlantic. Huff Po. Cnn. WaPo. Kara Swisher.
And of course the liars at Washington Examiner and Washington Times and Reason joined, but it's no surprise the rightwing press was lying.
What's surprising is how effectively the rightwing press influenced the centrist press.

BHI is a HATE group. WTF can't you all get it through your thick, dense heads that they're just as much to blame?

Racism and bigotry are based on the psychological inability to see your own prejudice.
People pre-judge people or groups based on white/black liberal/conservative Catholic/Atheist,
and then passive-aggressively blame the group for "making me hate them".

It's easier to understand if you think in terms of classic child abuse psychology
"why do you make me slap you..."
but the prejudice is directed at an entire group of people rather than the spouse or child.

I have to grudgingly respect the Black Hebrew Israelites for owning their bigotry and prejudice. "Know thyself"
They're comfortable with themselves and "I hate whites, Catholics, anybody wearing a MAGA hat, and Jews".

I have begun to lose respect for the passive-aggressive bigots who pre-judge people on race, creed color and politics,
and "hate whites, Catholics, anybody wearing a MAGA hat, and Jews" but then shift the blame for their own hate onto the people they hate, so that "it's your fault for making me hate you".

WTF? You respect the Black "Israelites" because they're forthright with their hateful bigotry?
The way some of you justify bigotry by certain groups is despicable.

Oh, I'm not justifying BHI bigoty and prejudice at all.
I'm pointing out that, at least BHI are logically consistent; in contrast to the previous 70+ pages of liberal drivel
that "I hate Catholics, Trump supporters, oh, and bigots"...

A better analogy might be that both the KKK and BHI are despicable hate groups, but the BHI don't hide behind hoods.

This is another view at the lincoln memorial. https://twitter.com/i/status/1087484002863325185

ARe people really saying this whole display is justified because of what 5 BHI people said? These kids should never have been left unsupervised for a moment.

The Covington Catholic boys harrassed my friends and I before the incident with Nathan Phillips even happened. I'm tired of reading things saying they were provoked by anyone else other than their own egos and ignorance ?????

Come on, stop being so mean. They're clearly praying.

What a bunch of animals. I wouldn't take them anywhere. Wow. Now I understand why the school apologized.

Does the video clearly show that it's the Covington Catholic boys harassing the young woman? There were literally thousands of Catholic school boys in DC on that day.

Yes.

(Also: why were there thousands of Catholic school boys in DC on that day? Because the MOL only exists because Christian adults bus brainwashed kids into DC to march. It's not an organic march. They hold it on Friday to get more school kids and school trips.)

No, it's not random "people" that are saying that. It's partisan hacks at Reason (the Koch-affiliated outlet) that are saying that.

The right is deathly scared of the GOP base figuring out that Republicans use racism to get votes. That's why the rightwing propaganda machine mobilized for this.

This is what you get when you distill your entire life's philosophy down to one issue and set it free in public: literal bare-chested, screaming, dumb-asses with under-developed frontal lobes.

Look, you can wear whatever you want, but don't be all surprised when someone judges you based on what you are wearing. People do this all the time whether it's these items or tattoos or nose piercings or sneakers or whatever. For example, you might not want to wear a MAGA hat to a job interview. You might want to keep your personal beliefs out of the public arena, especially when they are perceived as extreme (either extreme, doesn't matter).

Lots of people understand this and modify their dress. Others want the attention. If you are wearing a MAGA hat, expect a certain kind of attention. Apparently they got their attention. The everyday DC people know that's what they want and they stay away from all of it (whether it's black Israelis, Native Americans, or kids from a Catholic school). We don't engage. The Covington chaperones should have told the kids this (and told them to stay under the radar with clothing choices). Just saying.

Huh? You're putting the hate group Black Israelis on the same plane with Native Americans and kids who go to parochial school?

I didn't say they were on the same plane (you said that). All I'm saying is that they are all here seeking some kind of attention and the best thing to do for anyone in DC is not to engage with these groups because you never know who is crazy and you just don't need to get into it with anyone. If someone tries to engage you, stay away.

This is one of the points I tried to drive home with my teen. One among many, but the most important when it comes to safety.

All of this - seriously. This was the first things I taught my kid when we went started visiting DC back when she was a preschooler.
Don't engage, stay away and mind your own business.

I think the kids just didn't know any better and it's likely the adults didn't either.

Now reading threads on twitter about the bullying at covington catholic and the kids who left the school or who stayed and killed themselves right after graduation.

So sad. This school needs to be shut down.

I agree.

I also just don't understand why these kids had never been taught that is NEVER acceptable to behave this way on a school field trip, or at a national monument. I have NEVER been on a field trip where kids acted like this. https://twitter.com/i/status/1087484002863325185

My kid would be grounded forever if he acted like that. Seriously.

Maybe they felt that they had a right to be treated decently in the capital of their country, not set upon by a group of vile bigots who happened to be black. Several of the youths objected to the BHI’s homophobic remarks but the left-wingers don’t want to acknowledge that because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

Absolutely not. That school likely has gone every year for decades and it also was likely those older kids had gone years prior. I heard they had a priest with them too. They knew exactly what they were doing, just didn't like the outcome.

Phony. Here’s betting your kid has already or will act like that, and it will be all over Snapchats that you never know exist.
