I actually hope (but don’t believe) this is some elaborate hoax about how white women get more media attention than women of color, or how AI distorts news coverage and you don’t know what to believe or something along those lines.

It is very possible that their house is being examined because that’s the last place she went. It would make sense to see if any clues were left behind or evidence of someone stalking her that night. Taking his car could be a required formality since she was in it a few hours earlier. Or they could be checking it for a tracking/bugging device.

Why didn’t they do that data ago, though? You’d think that would be one of their first steps.

I am not taking a position on who I believe the suspect is. I don't think we have enough information from LE, there surely is a lot they haven't said, or misdirected.

That said, I haven't bought the money motive for the SIL. If it was him, however, I would imagine something like this: he drove NG home. They had a conversation in that car that alarmed him--something she knew or confronted him about? This was not plotted and planned, and likely there will be more evidence that comes out that was left behind.

Back door left open to try for the "wandered off" theory. But the media and investigation team didn't run with that. Speculation about abduction led someone (who was involved with the disappearance - or a third party) to go with the ransom angle which is why it came 48 hours later.

The media reporting and videos have contained snippets designed to put pressure on someone. To signal we are getting close, and see how they respond. "This was a sophisticated person." A lengthy first video, humanizing their mom. Followed by the shorter video yesterday. "We understand you." Even if it's not directed at the ransom-writer, they are trying to bring the suspect in.

Yep, going through all the people who come in and out of both of these homes (since she was probably over at the SIL and BIL's home a lot) is probably a priority. Remember Elizabeth Smart was taken by someone who had been in their house doing work. The main suspect in Relisha Rudd's case was a janitor.

I have never forgotten the Laura Houghteling case in Bethesda where the killer was a crazy guy the mom paid to do yardwork.

That wouldn't require harming an elderly woman. You could just make something up to do either of those things.

Luminal not confirmed. But they took photos in the dark for 3 hours. If they were just taking normal photos they would turn the lights on.

I agree there is a lot of specification, but often it is based on known facts of the case that have been released.
