DIL never participates, never joins in

Anonymous
We’re at the beach with several families this weekend. It is well-known that DIL likes margaritas. We made a batch and she refused one, saying “I’ve already had a glass of red wine.”

I’m sure she would participate with her family. All we get is tight-lipped tolerance. I’m tired of constant rejection.

Maybe she's pregnant and doesn't want to tell you.

I don’t blame her, drinking margs after wine is a recipe for a rough hangover. Signed, fellow margarita enthusiast

I'm not at the beach with you but this year I cut down my drinks from about 10 a week to 4 a week for my health. I've def turned down a drink after having a drink this year!

Maybe she doesn't want to get drunk around her judgy in-laws.

Do your margaritas taste good to other people?

WTF? You're annoyed because someone refused a second drink? You are messed up.

I don't drink at all except weddings, NYE etc so you'd hate me.

Maybe she doesn't feel well.
Maybe she's on antibiotics.
Maybe she's pregnant.
Maybe she doesn't want two drinks.
Maybe she's trying to lose weight.
Maybe she had to take a Xanax and is telling a white lie because you can't mix that with alcohol.
Maybe your margaritas suck.

OP, don’t you have bigger things to worry about?

This is your big illustration of her shortcomings? THIS is your material?!

Did she already have a glass of red wine?

It sounds like she didn't want a second drink.

Don't read into it. Take her at her word unless she gives you reason to doubt her. How much a person drinks or doesn't drink is highly personal.

Hey Boomer, young people don’t drink like you do.

Well if you were my MIL, I wouldn't be able to stand you either. Fancy being judged for not drinking! Ugh, an elderly lush who needs others to "participate" to not feel diseased. Nothing more repulsive.
