Website says it doesn’t. But they have historically accepted a larger percentage in ED than EA or RD.
|
| UVA says no, but you don't believe them? Why would they explicitly say it wasn't an advantage? Wouldn't they just not address it if they didn't want you to know? |
| I looked at our school’s naviance for uva ED vs EA and I didn’t see a difference. |
| It’s not that I don’t believe them. But the acceptance rate is higher so I’m trying to understand. They say that athletes aren’t part of the pool. |
| There clearly is a huge acceptance rate in ED, so yes, there is an advantage. Further, recruited athletes are told to apply EA so they are not in the ED applicant pool like they are at other schools. |
Higher not huge. |
That’s helpful. Our naviance doesn’t distinguish application plans. |
My guess: They may be implying that you don’t have a “better” chance in general; acceptance depends on other factors – like the cohort of applicants. (maybe in the year that they had a higher acceptance rate, more highly qualified applicants apply during that time.) Versus some schools who say that they specifically aim to fill half of their class from ED applicants. UVA does that make that claim. |
That makes sense. They don’t want an individual candidate to think that they have a better chance in ED bc they think they would’ve made the same decision in EA. Of course, there is no way of knowing whether they would actually have made the same decisions on every single application. |
The ED acceptance rate has always been a few points higher, for both in and out of state applicants. I also think they turn to the ED candidates first when removing off the wait list. |
not true on the athletes unless they are not on scholarship |
| Colleges are rightly trying to back off from ED and switch to EA because ED is not fair to applicants. ED bonuses might be lingering bias in AOs, or an illusoru artifact due to ED applicants being stronger and putting more of an effort into a strong application. |
|
They're probably addressing it because people see the percentage and assume it's easier to get in. The percent is higher, but the number is low. It's probably a strong group of applications. Pulling this off the admissions blog.
2022-2023 ED offers: 1,040 EA offers: 6,243 RD offers: 2,123 |
| Didn’t they just announce they were ending ED? |
| If the kid wants to go to UVA, yes do ED. Mine both got in ED. I’m a believer even though they say it doesn’t matter. |
