Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Some quit playing altogether because they were pushed out of their positions by Overton's clown show.

Letter from VHSL

Knew them rednex down there were going to uphold.
It’s going to be Oscar Smith now.

Idk. Battlefield is strong and could be the last team standing. I actually think Battlefield had a better chance of winning it all than Hayfield.

As a fan, I was looking forward to seeing Hayfield, Battlefield, and Madison clash with the best Richmond, and Tidewater teams. It’s a shame that the haters had to get involved.

A lot of non Hayfield people were looking forward to those matchups. I do believe it all would've remained under the radar if the team moms hadn’t stated fighting. If the one team mom had given up her position quietly and accepted the new team culture, we would be none the wiser.

But now her kid gets playing time in the postseason for SoCo. So I guess she’s having the last laugh as they say.

Nah cuz he on team but don’t play, lol
But question is if this team mom left Hayfield and the son now attends SOCO n this WHOLE thing is about football, what’s happening with that, because it’s obvious she moved her kid for. Same reason there coming after Overton for, or is this being overshadowed

Everyone wants to keep blaming this one mom. There were MULTIPLE people who came forward. Even had a letter from FCPS coaches about this mess. It’s about time he faces some consequences. He should be fired and so should everyone who allowed this crap to happen. That superintendent is a joke and made the county the laughing stock of Va. For everyone say buy the kids…those 20 something knew what they were doing and knew it was wrong.

That poster has a point. That kid went transferred to south county for the sole reason of playing football. They need some type of discipline as well.

Different situation. He applied to move and was approved result of bullying (that Asst Coach’s post continue to give more evidence for). This is very different from recruiting players, they transfer and then people try to make up a story after they get caught.

No one ever has anything to say about Overton's treatment of this kid. Curious.

The asst coach did not redact what he said, just had to hear so would be accepted as a DCUM post.

Was this asst coach (pj seilhamer) at Freedom? Do they have kid on team? Online shows him in Bristow Va.

He's an a-hole who bounces from school to school. Currently at Hayfield.

Yes. Reid said they are appealing. FCPS believes they are in the right, and that the VHSL got it wrong.

Where did Reid say they are appealing? Is there a link to that somewhere?

From the Fairfax Times article:

“It’s understood that Fairfax County Public Schools plans to now appeal the ban to the 37-member executive committee of the VHSL, based in Richmond. Playoffs are scheduled to begin the weekend of Nov. 15. The first-round regional pairings are scheduled to be released this Sunday.”

They should. It’s a lot of speculation and some bs. Let the boys play!

They lost the appeal. They do not get a second one. Read the article that was a quote from when they were first notified of the ban. The investigation is complete. This is no longer speculation and BS. What's BS is the crap Overton and everyone who followed him pulled. Those boys can play at the schools they should have been going to the whole damn time.

Wish they were done. VHSL made decision (letter from Billy Exec Dir). Hayfield did a first appeal to Sportsmanship Committee. They lost (today’s news story). Hayfield is now reported to be continuing to fight by appealing to the entire VHSL Board.

There is NO WAY the entire Board will overturn the decision. Not with the overwhelming amount of evidence VHSL amassed, the two previous rulings against Hayfield and the enormous amount of public interest in fairness related to this case. They won't call into question their own org's judgment.

How did FCPS staff spend 400 hours and miss 9 transfers?

Fully agree and reason would love FCPS to explain the $ and time they are spending on this. Only reason I can think of is people telling Reid she will look better for having backed Hayfield.

Wait, did you just say it's not believable a high school coach is bullying kids? There's posts to that effect on the Sports forum all the time (not FCPS specific, but still).

Why not believable? They let all the asst coaches stay and they say all kinds of things. Just from this week (from Fairfax Times):

assistant coach Jeffrey Overton responded to the VHSL decision and posted a response on the X social media platform: “The Devil Is a Liar ‼️ No Weapon Formed against Us Shall Prosper 🙏 We’ve done everything asked the right way , [sic] this is a sick person’s personal attack.”

another Hayfield assistant coach, PJ Seilhamer, posted, “Just keep poking the bear. We coming for you all. No f***** mercy.” He attached an image that read: “Hayfield vs. Everybody.”

Yeah and I hear the punishment these days is a two year ban from post season. S County shouldn’t be in this year’s postseason or next.

Sorry but this is crazy

Fcps allows transfers for bullying.

Query what the standard of review is in the VHSL by laws for issues on appeal from the Sportsmanship to the entire VHSL board. Arbitrary or capricious? Clear and convincing evidence of an erroneous decision? Sounds unlikely Hayfield can prevail

Did you read the letter the Fairfax Times claims is from VHSL. It's pretty scathing and if real seems hard to overcome.

New article over at Inside NOVA:

Hayfield Secondary School made its final appeal Thursday to overturn a recommended two-year postseason ban in football.

The hearing was held before a Virginia High School League three-person Executive Committee subcommittee. Each member on the subcommittee was appointed by Virginia High School League Executive Director Billy Haun for this specific case.

After hearing from both the league and Hayfield, the subcommittee now has up to five working days to render a decision.

Sounds like some bad coaching as well, not a single point

Per VHSL, after Overton convinced all his favorite/PME players to transfer to Hayfield, the Freedom team was left with zero coaches, only two seniors, and only 6 other returning players *total*. The entire football program is only 50 kids and 42 of them did not play varsity last year. That's completely insane. No amount of coaching can fix that in a season.

What u just wrote is completely Asanine in itself. The program ran with between 45-52 kids while he was there now that he left this coach only has about the same that Overton did during his tenure. But if the were PME meaning pre 9th that’s on the parents regardless of what you say, allegedly you know that 42 didn’t play last year meaning the whole program is first year players in HS, to boot. Man make it make sense
