Best way to lose 10 lbs in 2 months

Anonymous
I really want to lose 10 lbs by October 28th. Have a big family event to attend and will be seeing a lot of people I have not seen in years. I typically eat pretty healthy (minimal carbs or sugar) but have gone a bit off the rails this summer. I weigh around 150 and want to get down to 140 (I am 5’6”).

I don’t have much time to work out unfortunately (very intense job with long hours). Also going through perimenopause and it has been very challenging to lose weight.

I typically intermittent fast and don’t eat from 8pm to 12pm but that alone doesn’t help me lose weight.

What’s the best way to get there? Just count calories (my fitness pal recommends 1250 per day to lose between 1-1.5 lbs per week). I have had success on Keto before so maybe that’s a safer route? My biggest issue is that with my job I eat out regularly which makes it hard to count calories exactly.

What does everyone recommend?

Honestly? Fasting works. Skip a few meals and see what happens. You will feel very hungry ... That's the point. Your body will start consuming your extra fat.

I have easily lost 10 pounds this way, when I need to.

How would I get a prescription? Thought doctors won’t prescribe just to drop 10 lbs?

Do you gain it all back though really quickly?

Fwiw, I’m the op of the thread on healthy breakfast for commuters. I’m down 8lbs as of this morning after a week or two of changing my eating habits and getting at least 10k steps.

I’m eating a ZBar with black coffee for breakfast then taking a 3-5k step walk.

At work I’m eating a hard boiled egg sandwich on thin Italian bread (Maiers I think?). 40 calories a slice. Or rotisserie chicken on a 100 calorie English muffin. (Add lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, etc.). 100 calorie nut snack pack. Small Diet Coke poured over a huge glass of ice.

30 minute walk on lunch break.

Tons of water.

Dinner is lots of fresh spinach with chicken and veggies or something healthy. Honestly, I’ve eaten a few homemade quesadillas filled with spinach and chicken and some beans and cheese.

Then a 5k step walk after dinner.

I’m on semaglutide and it has changed my life but it wouldn’t be a good choice here even if you could get it. You don’t know when you’ll start feeling the effects - some people do right away on the lowest dose, but others have to titrate up to the highest dose which takes two months or more anyway.

For the eating out I would order healthy (protein with a couple of veggies and skip the bread) and just eat half.

Just eat less & walk more.

Keto. I’m doing it now for the first time and it really works faster than anything I’ve done before. Not sure how sustainable it will be once I stop being so restrictive though.

Only if you eat more again.

https://www.amazon.com/End-Your-Carb-Confusion-Customize/dp/1628604298/ Easy to follow, tips for eating out and I had a lot of health benefits too. Doctor runs a metabolic health clinic at Duke. Not required but intermittent fasting is a great thing to layer in, really helps change hunger signals.

Enjoy your party!

This. If you are already eating pretty healthy just, the best thing and most comfortable, is to eat the foods you normally do, just smaller portions. Do not buy diet foods (low carb/low calorie bread, fake sugar items, keto labelled food etc)

Losing 10 lbs for an event is not a healthy endeavor, because chances are you'll end up yo-yoing. Look up the health risks associated with yo-yo dieting. In the long run, you actually risk being heavier because of the cycle of bing/purge type behavior you justify all in the name of being skinny for a family event.

If you want to move your body more, or eat food that fuels you better, by all means do those things. But if the second you stop being hyper vigilant about your eating habits, your weight creeps up a little, there's a good chance you are trying to hold yourself to a weight that it too low for what your body prefers.

This. I did it before a wedding earlier this summer. This is what I did:

Up at 6am and breakfast: coffee (I typically don’t eat breakfast anyway)

Snack 10:30am: handful of almonds or trail mix

Lunch 12:30pm: I did what I called “tiny lunch” which was either another handful of almonds or a very small portion of whatever I would normally eat (usually leftover dinner from the night before).

Dinner 6pm: smaller side of normal dinner portion, and only one helping. No dessert.

I found that the best way to loose weight is to eat less. It was hard the first week or so, so my goal was eating small amounts to avoid feeling hungry, not necessarily eating until I felt full. But then your body gets used to eating less so you feel full faster.

Oh, I also cut down on the amount of alcohol I drank. Didn’t eliminate entirely, just became really strict about having only two glasses of wine in one evening, and only drinking on the weekend.

It’s been three months and I’ve maintained the weight I’ve lost.
