| DH and I both work in Tysons. Currently in an Arlington condo but the baby is due in two months. We've been looking for months! There are no houses within a 10-15 minute drive to Tysons. that aren't tear downs, and we REALLY don't want to live in a condo with a baby. Maaaaaaaaaybe open to townhouses, but are they kid friendly? Any recs on where to look or are we being totally unrealistic? |
| You're being unrealistic if you want a SFH |
| I would look for a townhome in Reston, Va. |
| I don't think you can get a SFH under $700k near to Tysons - maybe under $800K. There are TH communities under $700K that would work. Most have tons of kids. |

We lived in a TH in Reston when our first was born. Perfectly fine.
I think you likely have to go further to find a SFH in the range you are looking for. We live in Greenbriar near Chantilly HS and the smaller models might work. Lots of people in our hood work in Tysons. It is probably more like 30+ minutes, but if you want a SFH, you have to make trade offs |
Kinda snobbish when you cannot even afford a townhouse. Let’s see, these are priced to sell and are within 15 mins. Let this be a wake up call to you and adjust your expectations and learn to compromise https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2117-21st-Rd-N-Arlington-VA-22201/12079378_zpid/?mmlb=g,0 https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1539-22nd-St-N-Arlington-VA-22209/12079414_zpid/ |
Those are in Arlington. |
Agree with pp. This is the new reality. 700k near Tysons will not get you a SFH that's not deemed a tear down in your eyes. You have to compromise somewhere. For some ppl, they buy fixer uppers/smaller/older in their desired location. For some they buy further out to get the house they want. We did the former and renovated after a few years. |

I couldn't find a house under 700k near Tysons when I was looking 9 years ago. I think you're looking for a unicorn. I think most sfhs are now over 1m.
I think you should buy a townhouse and save for another 5 years, then move again. |
I can't get over the juxtaposition of their amazing art, with how ugly their furniture is. |
Are you new to the area? |
Even for a teardown, builders will pay more than 700k for any lot that doesn't front a major road. If OP really wants a SFH for 700k that's an easyish commute to Tysons: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2001-N-George-Mason-Dr-Arlington-VA-22207/12067016_zpid/ |
