I'm a daily brisk walker, 45 min a day, rain or shine, hot or cold. I average 50 miles a month. It's my favourite exercise. I only started walking daily and briskly about 10 yrs ago at 40. It helps with everything, mood, and I get to.listen to.great podcasts. I eat clean and healthy, but I primarily attribute my trim figure to.daily brisk walks, combined with clean eating. I weigh the same.now at.age 50 as I did at.age 20. It's an underrated form.of.exercise. people.will scoff I'm sure, and call me.a humble brag. But I really think we.should step.away from the gym equipment and take daily walks for health. I challenge anhone.to take.a brisk walk.after dinner, and watch the weight slowly melt off
Evolutionary speaking we are designed to talk long distances, it's the perfect exercise. What are your experiences with daily brisk walks? |
I think you are primarily thin due to genetics. |
Dp. Also 50, also thin, but my 4 siblings all carry 20-60lbs extra weight. I walk 2-3 miles daily, without fail, plus stretching, push ups and planks after my walks. I hike twice a week. It's not genetics; it's the walking. |
I used to walk 5 miles a day R/T to commute to work. When a move followed quickly by young kids forced me to drive instead, I definitely noticed the difference.
Now that my kids are a bit older, I’m starting to walk again, especially since getting a dog. It helps. |
Glad it works for you.
I walked 2-3 miles a day for a year and while it was nice to get outside, the scale didn't move. Weight loss is not as simple as you think it is. |
Agree but at 50, you should do weights too. |
There is no reason to not do both, walking and lifting. I walk significantly more than you, but it is just the way I live my life. I do not even consider it exercise unless I am hiking a mountain. Lifting is what I consider my actual workout. Also 45 minutes of walking would do nothing for your figure if you had a natural tendency to overeat. Your walk burns maybe 100 calories. |
Brisk walking would be a baseline level of activity for staying alive. So it’s great for that for sure. If you can do more-great. If not, totally fine.
It’s not a replacement for more intense exercise that actually gets your heart rate up or weighted exercise. |
Same for me. I used the Run Across America app and recorded everything religiously. Definitely helped improve mood. Didn’t move the scale. |
I love my daily walk! It’s meditative for me even though I walk at a fast pace with hills. I do not take my phone. I walk alone early in the morning when it’s quiet. |
There are aspects of walking you don't appreciate. It is an exercise you can do as you age. Easy on the joints. And if you walk fast, 16-17 min mile, you are getting a workout in esp if you find some hills. And while you are out walking, you aren't consuming calories. |
It is good being outside for your serotonin levels as well. Walking is definitely great for everything. |
I like walking too. I have a dog so probably average 60 mins a day. It’s definitely more of an amble for me though, not fast paced.
I think it helps with weight but what I’m putting in my mouth is a bigger factor. |
I walk an average of 35 miles a week (last week was 45) and my weight is steadily creeping up. |
Like everyone diet and exercise related I think it really depends on the person/genetics. Walking isn’t a panacea for everyone for sure. I walk a good deal and also maintain a healthy weight with little effort but I’m not sure that has anything to do with the walking or just genetics all through. I definitely find walking makes me happy though which is good enough for me! |
