DH and I will be vacationing at an all-inclusive next week. I’m currently at the lowest weight I’ve been in years and feeling great.
I’d honestly rather spend this vacation’s calories on cocktails rather than desserts or savory foods. I’ll have access to all the salads and protein I could ever want. I’m committed to doing a lot of walking and also weightlifting most mornings. So what’s my game plan? How can I drink without gaining? |
You just outlined the perfect plan!!! Don’t lose sight of it. Eat healthy, it will still be delicious, stay active and do not drink so much you need junk/hangover food the next day to get back in gear. And enjoy!! |
I guess you’re right! Thanks! And I definitely don’t intend to get sloppy drunk, just want to guiltlessly enjoy a relaxing buzz at the pool every day! |
Also consider the types of drinks you choose. A pina colada or margarita are going to have a lot more calories than a glass of wine or beer. |
I do best if exercise is part of the vacation activities vs going to the hotel gym or whatever. |
The game plan would be enjoy your vacation and don’t worry about it. One week in an entire year of consistency won’t make a bit of difference. |
Over the last year and a half, I've lost over 100lbs.
Here's my advice - don't obsess over a few pounds during your vacation. Do what you love and will enjoy (if that includes weight lifting and walking then do that, but if it doesn't - don't force yourself) The key is that when you're back from vacation go back to doing what you've been doing to lose weight. I've gone on 3 vacations during my weightloss journey. What really helped was looking at a lifestyle change overall - but to not white-knuckle it during vacations or holidays. I may have gained a couple pounds during vacation but lost it really quickly after I got back because I went back to eating healthy and not having rich cuisine. Have a great trip!! |
Walk a ton and don’t gorge yourself. |
This. If your eating is so strict you can't enjoy a vacation, what is the point?! Life it too short. Are you putting "lowest weight ever" on your tombstone? Go back to what you regularly do next week and you will be fine. Don't weight yourself. You may bring home some bloat or salt, that's NORMAL. Just go back to your scheduled self. |
Story of my life! First, just accept that you will probably gain a little water weight. Even just being on a plane tends to make me bloat.
My tips would be: - Skip breakfast or just have something small - Cardio every morning and try to take some walks throughout the day on the beach, around the resort etc. Swimming is also good exercise! - Stick to mostly protein & veggies but allow yourself some treats - Drink lots of water - Stay away from mixed drinks, stick to wine or simple cocktails like vodka tonic. Or on the flip side, just have one strong cocktail with dinner instead of multiple glasses of wine. But regardless, a few days of eating junk won't ruin all your progress. |
You will probably come back weighing heavier but give it a week or two to have your weight level off and come back down. BTDT.
Enjoy your vacation. |
Ranch water instead of margaritas
Vodka, lime juice, club soda Rum and Diet Coke with a maraschino cherry Mule Mojito, no sugar Champagne Bloody Mary Eggs with fruit no cheese, no bread Fruit Fruit Salad Fruit Enjoy dinner, drink wine or low cal beer Your gonna gain 5 and that’s okay |
I never gain weight on vacation because I tend to be super active... walk, swim, don't take the tram around the resort...
Enjoy yourself, OP. I personally love to drink vodka soda with lots of lime in hot weather. Very few calories and delicious. |
Some good suggestions here, but, too much fruit. |
Just build working out into your day and you'll be fine. |
