"According to the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper, the parent who complained said the King James Bible "has 'no serious values for minors' because it's pornographic by our new definition", referring to the 2022 book-ban law.

The Utah state lawmaker who wrote the 2022 law had previously dismissed the Bible removal request as a "mockery", but changed course this week after calling it a "challenging read" for younger children.

"Traditionally, in America, the Bible is best taught, and best understood, in the home, and around the hearth, as a family," Ken Ivory wrote on Facebook.

The district's ruling determined that the Bible's content does not violate the 2022 law, but does include "vulgarity or violence not suitable for younger students". The book will remain in place in local high schools."

Book bans are stupid. They are stupid even when they are done to make a point. But maybe at this point there are no other options.

This is what book bans and internet censorship get us. SMH.

I, for one, appreciate the point taken by this "ban" but agree that book bans are stupid and hopefully this action pushes the point.

If this keeps books with images of sex acts or instructions on how to get on Grindr out of our schools, I’m perfectly fine with it.

Same. If this is what's needed to keep more vile material out of schools, it's a fair trade.

Please provide any examples of books with images of sex acts/instruction or how to get on Grindr in school libraries.

Like books on how to get on Grindr? Really?

The book is titled “This Book is Gay”, and yes, it is in some schools.

The book “Gender Queer” is also in schools and has drawings of sex acts.

I’m more than happy to have those books removed from school libraries along with the Bible.

you people are crazy. I am an atheist and I strongly believe that the Bible should be in school libraries available to any child interested. Kid might want to read about a story he had heard about in Sunday school. He might be interested in hearing about a different religion from the one he has at home and is uncomfortable asking his parents about it. He may just have heard a lot about it and want to check it out. He might want to check it out so he gets brownie points from his devout grandmother. Who cares? It is a major book in our society.

Which elementary schools had books like those in their libraries?

The Bible actually does have some text that are inappropriate to young children. Incest, rape, erotica, violence against women and children. Should not be in an ES library. They can have the watered down children's Bible.

I'm fine with the Bible, but evangelicals have fooled around and found out that the banning applies to everyone. Whoops.

I think those books don’t belong in any K-12 library. You’re okay with it in middle school?
