Duke or Cornell for computer science

My kid has gotten into both. Cost of attendance is almost similar. Which one would you recommend and choose ?

Duke

What does the kid prefer?

Both are great but they have different vibes.

Cornell, hands down. Their CS program is great. Prestige is similar.

If they are very serious about CS and also a very mature, self-directed student, then probably Cornell. If they might want to change their major down the road, or are into sports/want to be at a school with strong athletics/student social life, I’d lean towards Duke. The schools seem very different to me. I’d have kid visit both and decide from there.

+100 really can’t see a kid loving both, and happiness is more of a key to success here then which school. As you know quite well, both are good.

We were in similar place and chose Duke after visiting the campus, some research and talking to folks. Duke is a stellar place and amazing resources! I would pick duke again if I had this choice with my second kid

Duke for better weather & better health.

I think Cornell is stronger in CS, but Duke probably has a better student life experience. I’d choose Duke.

I might pick Duke just for the weather.
Basketball might be fun too.
Duke graduates seem more annoying than Cornell graduates by a large margin so maybe in the end I would pick Cornell.

Cornell.
