I see women 50+ in my barre class who are so strong and fit. I admire that! Is it just barre? Or are there other workouts included? |
I am really strong and fit and do Pilates once a week. So I look like I have the Pilates body but it is because I do weightlifting and HIIT 5 days a week. I suspect most really fit barre ladies are either not eating much and doing A LOT (daily) of barre. Or alternatively doing other forms of exercise |
I know you said strong and fit but sometimes people think thin is fit...its not. I'll never forget hearing the term "skinny fat". It women who look then but have a high percentage of body fat when compared to muscle.
TBS, I also do HIIT or strength training several times a week and barre is my "easy" class. I didn't get super fit from barre. |
Agree. And I don’t want barre class you go to, but the ones I’ve been to are either frequented by thin frail looking older women, fit middle aged women (who likely do other forms of exercise), or overweight woman of various ages |
This |
I did barre a couple of times and couldn't believe how little of a challenge or workout it felt like. There is no way anybody who does only this for exercies is very fit. |
At my Pure Barre studio, a lot of women do it 5-6 times a week. It is an amazing workout- especially with the new formats. Some ladies also do orange theory or F45 in addition to PB. |
Agreed. It’s definitely easier than many other forms of exercise. I also dislike it because the instructors are always prattling on about how it will create “long, lean muscles.” Sorry, if you’re not built long and lean, barre will not make you so. |
I do not think you were doing it right, or the class was poorly taught. If your form is good, it is difficult. |
I was very dedicated to Bar Method for a long while. If you are doing it right its very hard and effective. If your Bar/Barre class isn't working you aren't doing it right. |
True. You cannot lengthen your muscles. |
Purebarre is bull.
Real dancers do real barre. They look a bit different than the women in Purebarre classes |
I definitely feel a burn when I do at home barre workouts. I have used them to get back into shape postpartum. I do 15-20 min workouts a couple times a week, mixed with other forms of exercise such as walking, yoga, and a little bit of weights. |
You probably had bad form. It is a good workout if you are doing it correctly |
The point of Pure Barre isn't to be a "real dancer". It's exercise |
