Single Issue Voter: Controlling The Borders

Most concerning to me about the open borders:

1. Massive increase of child rape/sex trafficking…
“Sound of Freedom” opens today at local theaters. Am guessing it’s appropriate for mature high students (but not younger), and only if they’re interested.

2. Flood of fentanyl across America. Soon we’ll *all* personally know someone who was poisoned to death from fentanyl.

“You can sell fentanyl only once,
but you can sell a child 10-20 times a day.”

ok now they will continue to pour k er the border illegally and legally.

And it’s really terrible and poor planning to start a new immigration program where they have years and years of backlog for the current immigration programs.

Oh and yes they believe in an open border.

I support eliminating asylum claims except for those who can prove they are at threat of death from the government of their home country.

Yes, there have been years and years of backlog. Why hasn't the GOP, when the had the house, senate and white house, done something about it? Why haven't there been any bi-partisan bills to address the issue? Because the GOP wants people like you to remain angry rather than solve the issues.

As to the bolded, they can only get asylum if there is threat from their home country, but there has to be an adjudciation around it, no one can just "grant" it at the snap of a finger. But there is a backlog and a need for more admininistrative judges to hear these cases. And again, the GOP has blocked funding to clear this as well.

So sure, be angry at Biden who has been in office for two years and has done more to address the issue than anyone in the last 5 years while also falsely claiming "oPeN BorDers" :roil:

No they can get asylum now with a claim of domestic violence. And that’s all they have to say at the border and they are let in and told hey don’t lose touch with us!

What I support is asylum claims only when the threat is directly from the government of the country towards the person for example a person who politically object and the government might realistically kill the person to quell their objection.

I agree.

It is so easy to solve this problem! Start prosecuting employers who hire illegal immigrants. If employers start doing time, they will not hire the undocumented. This will tell folks to stop coming. If there aren’t job opportunities, they will not come. I can’t fault folks for coming here for a better life because they’re unwilling to wait 10-20 years to do it legally. Congress needs to overhaul our immigration system. But the GOP uses it to anger people to vote against Dems. Both parties get money from businesses so they’re unlikely to ever prosecute business owners.

I've been saying this for years. That's our dirty little secret - there's an entire shadow economy in this country that lives off cheap (illegal) labor. Crack down on that, problem solved.

You sound naive. If you and I are supporting them, why worry about a job?

But then the GOP wouldn’t be able to fundraise from their easily led voters and their big donors wouldn’t be making big money. The GOP will never crack down on it for that reason, that and they prefer punching down. It makes them feel powerful.

The way you bigots whine, your whole neighborhoods are overrun with IlLeGaL iMmIgRaNtS. I’ve never not seen immigrants working like dogs; where are you finding all these idle immigrants?

Or maybe the PP isn’t naive and you’re just… wrong and a liar?

DP Do you think they’re living the high life on government money??? RW have this fantasy that people slip over the border then get $3,000 a month forever from the government. Weird.

Undocumented people are not able to get any public benefits. Only someone who actually has no clue would make such a claim. To the contrary and in reality, undocumented people stay in the shadows and work covertly to stay "out of the system" - it is only right wing BS and rhetoric that paints a picture of undocumented people living a life of luxury on the public dole.

It’s worse than that. The leaders of GOP (e.g. Trump) and their major donors are the ones employing the illegals. They love this situation because they can use the threat of deportation to keep wages down. They aren’t going to prosecute themselves! And at the same time they can get the idiots in the base riled up about it. Wins all around.
