Friends are mocking my credit card

Anonymous
Nothing special. Amex Platinum. Fee is waived since DH is military. But I pulled it out over Thanksgiving after dinner with college friends (we were splitting the bill), and they pointed and laughed, basically. Made jokes about me being rich. We have a group email thread, and they keep bringing it up. I don't think it's funny, but I couldn't tell you why. Is there any way to get them to stop?

They are jealous because of what they perceive the card to signify, If they mention it again, ask them to stop. If they are really friends, they will.

Pull out your Black card at the next meal.

But in all seriousness, letting something as petty as your friends not understanding your credit card get to you is pretty silly OP. Just let it roll off your back

You seem annoying and with a chip on your shoulders. Why not laugh and say "Yup, military perk of waived fees allows me to have an AmEx card. I wish they also gifted me some money, so I would actually be rich!!"

They are very immature.

If you’re not actually rich, just roll with it. Like if you bought something cheap and want to share it with your friends, say you got it with that card.

I'm annoying for...not saying anything?

Sorry, OP. I know what it feels like to be mocked like that repeatedly. It’s shitty of your friends to keep doing it.

You choose to be offended or upset. Nobody can help you.

Or maybe they’re just awkward and genuinely don’t know it’s upsetting to OP. I am hoping that’s the answer, and I think OP should assume neutral intentions unless there is mean girl behavior going on.

I'd just reply all that they really need to let this go as it's embarrassing for them. Everyone has a 'platinum' card of some kind; it means nothing and them bringing it up is weird.

Sounds like they don't.

I’m not really understanding why this is upsetting.

Neither do I. It’s just a silly joke. Doesn’t sound that funny, but also not a big deal. I don’t get it?

I think pp means all the banks have platinum cards, so it doesn’t mean anything if a consumer has one.
