Give me your best tips for making it work. I work in an office. My evenings are going to be taken up by something for the foreseeable future so if I want to go to the gym it’s going to have to be in the morning before work. The gym is 20 minutes from my house and near my work so I’ll have to shower there.
I have never been a morning exerciser and I’m more of a sleep until the last minute type so I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it but I want to try. |
Did it all the time before kids. The key part is to cool down enough before showering — otherwise you sweat again after dressing.
Need good synthetics that pack well in gym back. I would keep a couple full outfits at the office just in case you forget something in packing. Pack change of clothes for week so you dont have to do it every night. Make sure gym bag has a shoe compartment. Are you driving there? Then you can just pack like 5 drawstring bags one for each day too. |
My office had a really nice shower setup so I'd actually go to the gym, work out, then go to work and shower and change there. Kept sweaty gym clothes in a bag I closed up tightly.
Very casual office - no big deal to have wet hair or hair in a bun or pony. |
Yes I’ll be driving. Hadn’t thought about pre-packing outfits for the week but that’s a good idea. Ugh. All the executive functioning this will take is making my head spin. Not my forte. |

Where you would keep work outfits for a whole week? That seems unnecessary. OP, I used to do this, also pre-kids, and I made sure I had the essentials the night before: work clothes, toiletries, towel, flip flops for the shower, etc. If you take colder showers you don’t need to wait to cool off in between the workout and the shower.
Shoes are something I’d leave at the office, if possible. Good luck! It can be done, with planning, and can become a great habit. |
Pick workout clothes out at night. Some people sleep in them but I don’t. Wear layers.

I would keep some extra essentials in a work bag- underwear/bra/shoes. Then, layout your work clothes before bed and pack them before you go to bed. Also lay out your workout clothes.
Basically, make it so you’re on autopilot in the morning. I also sit down and drink a cup of coffee and have a little snack before I go. It’s not necessary, but it makes it a nice little routine that is pleasant, even if I didn’t want to get up early. |

I get up at 4:30, feel like I have an extra half day. Much more productive overall. I handle things that I need to focus on without interruption. I have breakfast and they go to the gym for an hour 3 days a week and the other 2 days I do bikram. Then I do an hour of really deep stretching on saturday and sunday. |
My gym was in the same building as my office. Kept 3-4 work outfits in my office so I could arrive in my workout clothes, drop my bag/lunch in my office and then go to the gym with my work clothes on a hanger. This was two hours before people were showing up at the office so my 45 min commute took 15 mins.
I know that's not your setup, but it worked for me. Definitely cool down before showering and take as cold a shower as you can stand. |
All the time. It’s no big deal. I pack my gym bag the night before with what outfit I want to wear to work. Wake up, wash face, brush teeth, put on workout clothes, pack whatever I want for breakfast and lunch at work. Then off to

I’ve been doing this for a year. I have an iPhone note packing checklist just to make sure I don’t forget stuff. I also keep a full spare outfit in my office just in case I still do forget something.
If you are like me and drive to work in your gym clothes, please make sure that you have a coat in the car. Last winter my car broke down at 5 am, I was in my gym clothes, and it was awful. |
