Interesting as universities like UNC is asking students not to go to certain US cities. See the last one below Most recent campus updates (from March 10) University-affiliated travel to Level 3 and Level 2 countries due to COVID-19 as defined by the State Department and the CDC is prohibited. This includes China, South Korea, Iran, Italy and Japan. Students, faculty and staff returning from Level 3 or Level 2 countries due to COVID-19 will be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days off campus effective immediately. The University is restricting students, faculty and staff from University-affiliated travel to locations within the United States where a state of emergency has been declared related to COVID-19 and coronavirus. We strongly discourage personal travel to these areas. This includes the cities of Austin and San Antonio in Texas, and the states of California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah and Washington. https://www.unc.edu/coronavirus/ |
Plane is just one area. The hotel room and crowds, etc. |
Omg, no way. You’re pregnant. Why on earth would you do this? |
Many are traveling and still cruising there isn’t a ban. https://www.chicagotribune.com/coronavirus/sns-cru...rhiq-story.html?outputType=amp |
That’s ‘cause you’re so smart. ![]() |
Many people drink and drive too, but that doesn't mean it's safe or smart. |
Well so far, the available evidence suggests that pregnant women are not more susceptible to this/severity and I'm otherwise 30, healthy, and no underlying conditions. I am generally anxious and trying to be rational with the available data. However, my husband (who is not anxious by nature) agrees with you. I have no idea what to do. |
Flew cross country last night. There were about 10 of us on the flight. If you have to fly -- now is the time! Social distancing at its best. |
I hear you- I am supposed to travel to my hometown next week (also not a hotbed at the moment) for an event that is really important to my sister. Not pregnant but otherwise similar circumstances. I guess I'm most concerned about contributing to the spread than for myself, but everyone there seems unfazed by the whole thing and are continuing with their spring break plans. My parents both work with the public as part of their jobs so it's far more likely they will eventually be exposed that way than from me. So it probably really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things whether I go, other than it will cause family drama if I don't. |
Did you notice him winking during the presser? Dh noticed it first and I went back and watched again. It was like, go to cornovirus.org, wink wink. I took it to mean, don't trust anything you read there. But I'm trying to figure out what else he was trying to tell us without too many people noticing. |
I don’t think it has to do with being anxious. If anyone has the ability to not potentially contribute to spreading this virus, I don’t see why they wouldn’t do so. |
Yup I think you've succeeded on DCUM- it might be time for you to stake yourself at the airport and shame everyone at departures. Might change a few minds before they get on the plane. |
Sure, but I guess that would be in the calculus for ANYONE considering non-essential travel right now and so far there's not really guidance on not traveling domestically - even though I know what you're saying. This is elective travel but it's also potentially the last time I'll see my family for a while before I can't fly in my third trimester & with newborn (all are a plane flight away), especially if things change in the next few months and none of them can travel to me as planned for baby-related things. I guess I'm wondering if you were pregnant, would that factor into your decision differently regarding your personal risk, regardless of whether or not you generally think it's a good idea for people to stop traveling for non-essential reasons to help prevent this spreading in general? |
No, we just don’t spend every waking moment on this thread like you apparently do. And I were as panicked as you are, I’d have retrieved my child already. Not sure what you are waiting for. I respect Dr. Fauci too. But I didn’t see anywhere in his comments that said you can’t breathe the air in your car while driving on the highway. |
If I booked with chase sapphire points, do I need to cancel through them or can I do so directly with the American Airlines? |
