In another sign of how poorly run and strategically misguided ACPS and that City are - the hoco dance is capped at 1600 attendees. All from the school (no outsiders). The obsession and commitment to a singular behemoth high school absolutely means it’s equitably bad for everyone. When the size is an insurmountable obstacle to normal high school things, it should really cause some serious introspection. |
Is it a lottery? First come first serve? It doesn’t seem very equitable to not allow all students. |
What on earth? How do they determine which of the 4,000+ students will get to attend? This sounds awful.
I too will never understand Alexandria city’s refusal to consider a second high school. So many kids left out of events and activities. That must contribute to at least some of the social unrest there. |
Is it true it’s $60 a ticket? For a school with such a high FARMS rate, this doesn’t mirror equity! |
$25 per ticket |
When is it and when were the kids notified of this restriction?
Seems very short-sighted as a whole bunch of kids likely already asked their boyfriends/girlfriends to go and they could very easily attend one of the many other HSs in town. Is there a scenario possible where a freshman could attend but not a senior? How is that equitable? |
That's terrible. Also, no matter what the ticket price is, kids with more $ available and parents who are more able to be involved are going to grab tickets quicker. |
Yes, from what I've been told, 400 tickets per grade. |
FWIW, I never heard of kids not getting a ticket.....do we even know if it sells out? |
It’s at the St James, which is weird. |
I'm wondering this, too. Maybe it's always had a limit? I'll ask my recent graduates and report back.... |
Weird if in fact exact same number of slots for freshman as for seniors. |
Correct. I'm the PP that inquired above. If 400 tickets go to freshmen but there are 800 seniors attempting to get one of their 400 tickets, some will be blocked from going. And that aint right. |
I would be curious if it sells out too. My kid is at a different high school and he knew more who didn’t go than did. They made other plans for the evening. Some got dressed up and went other places. Others arranged different get togethers or parties. I don’t know if the homecoming dance is all that important to a lot. But I agree, those who want to go should be able to attend. |
That truly sucks! I would feel for seniors who haven’t had a homecoming since freshman year and now may miss their last one. ACPS screws up every single thing. |
