How do you deal with hunger?

Aside from eating, that is

I’ll start by saying I’m a healthy weight and have always been. I find that if I eat when I am starting to feel hungry and choose healthy foods, I don’t have to worry about gaining weight. I lose weight if I stay hungry too long and gain weight if I eat while not hungry.

I’ve been this way my whole life. I’m 48.

Drink water to make sure I'm not actually thirsty. If I'm still hungry, I choose vegetables or fruit with some walnuts or lean protein. If it's meal time, I eat a meal.

I think about something Oprah once said about night time snacking. She didn't like going to bed hungry, so she would say to herself, that's my body eating up fat. I want my body to burn fat, so I'm not putting food in at night.

Cheesy, but it helped me. (for a time, just like with Oprah, it's up and down for me).

This is going to sound horrible to some people. Between noon and 6pm I take 2 sips of Coca Cola every hour. I think that small amount of sugar/caffeine taken every hour gets me between the lunch meal and the dinner meal without snacking. I've tried a healthy snack instead between lunch and dinner but I end up consuming more calories and eating more often.

Try to have an apple or some almonds. Sometimes caffeine sometimes a more substantial snack

First ask yourself if what you're feeling is actual hunger, or is it a craving...or boredom.

Also make sure you're eating enough protein and fat in every meal. nothing will keep you more satiated than those two things.

I drink a coffee with a bit of creamer, or have a few pretzels/chips.

I do like PP, and sometimes have coffee (decaf) with cream, or a few almonds, or a glass of water. Or a walk.

Like, today, my stomach has been rumbling. But I think that's because (sorry) I'm pre-mentstrual and get a monthly pre-menstrual colon cleanse ... this is a natural occurance after the post-ovulation constipation, folks, not anything sketchy. But everything moves through VERY quickly for a day or and then back to normal. So I'm not really hungry, so I like to give my body a chance to realize it's just fine. I had a few almonds and everything has settled down.

I am like this too. I eat more (and more often) than my DH who is obese and eats twice a day with no snacks. Some days I need three afternoon snacks just waiting for him to be hungry enough for dinner. I have always had an active appetite and I feel like I eat way more than most women my size.

I’ll have something to drink that has some calories and little bit of caffeine like decaf latte with oat milk or a kombucha.

Has your husband always eaten like he does now? Did he become obese eating two meals a day with no snacks?

Lots of water. Then a large iced coffee with a splash of cream or a cup of hot tea with milk. Nominal calories, but will curb any hunger for me for another couple hours.

I remind myself it’s ok to feel hunger and that I was overeating before which is why I was overweight. I drink diet drinks, coffee with milk, and sparkling water. When I am super hungry and it’s not meal time, I eat a100 calorie or less snack very slowly and then immediately do something else that keeps me busy for about 10 minutes - by that time I’m less hungry and can continue to wait it out until a meal.

I’m five pounds from my ideal weight, and I only lose weight when I eat very low calorie diets (les than 1200), so when I am trying to lose weight I am hungry a lot. Even for maintenance, I try not to eat a meal or snack unless I feel hungry.

I know enough to not restrict all day and then eat the house down at night… that said, it is a fight every DAMN night not to “carb” myself to sleep. It really feels like the natural way for me to get to sleep. Multiple slices of sourdough toast and butter, leftover pizza, peanut butter in a tortilla - they all seem perfectly reasonable to my disordered brain after a substantial balanced dinner and fruit for dessert. I do not feel sick after, just unhappy because of calories consumed. I feel sleepy.

I exercise in the morning. At night I take a hot shower,, sip tea, read, etc. and toss and turn and think about crackers. I feel like thin women secretly take sleeping pills. Not really, but how do you sleep?
