You try to do something else that keeps your mind off of thinking about food. But, naturally, when you are hungry, your mind thinks about food.

I eat. Only way to address the hunger |
Not trying to lose weight, but I definitely am inclined to eat out of boredom. My solution is to eat plain carrots, celery, or grapes. I get to eat, but virtually no calories, good for me, and there is only so much I can eat before I get bored. |
Sometimes I just go to bed. Can't eat when I'm sleeping!
Chewing on a stick of gum will hold me off too. |
I try to take a walk on the later side at night -- 9:30-9:45ish and then just go to bed. The later I stay up, the more I want to snack. |
Hunger is a trigger for anxiety for me. So I try to load my
Meals and snacks with protein so I don't get too too hungry. But I'm probably not helpful because I would rather be 10lbs overweight than feel true deprivation hunger all the time. |
Go for a walk. |
If I am hungry then my diet is all wrong for me.
I do IF and eat plant based whole foods. No added sugar if i can help it, and mostly water and tea. I am stuffed when I eat my delicious foods because I eat HUGE quantities of finely chopped salads wit, protein, colorful veggies, seeds, nuts, cheese and a tiny bit of dressing. It has to taste delicious. AND then I eat my meal. I eat so much food that the fasting phase is actually a relief to my body and jaw. If I want to eat something unhealthy...I just try and make it healthier. A few tablespoon of chik-fil-a peach shake on a bowl of finely chopped peaches, banana and a sprinkling of pecans. I eat until I am satisfied. My big take away to lose weight and be healthy, is that a huge, finely chopped, deliciously dressed colorful salad with everything (and a very tiny amount of dressing), should be what you eat before every meal. It should not be your meal because then you feel dissatisfied and hanker for "other" foods. So eat your meal after your salad. You will be so full with the salad that you won't be able to eat very much of your meal anyways. And that keeps you satisfied. If you are hungry, you are already doomed to fail. You need calories, you need taste and you need your stomach to be full. Oh, and if you eat shit tasting diet food, you will fail. Your diet food should be amazing food that you would pay to eat in a restaurant Taste is essential so use variety, spices and herbs. A wonderful presentation, the freshest and best ingredients, and cut the processed crap. |
I ask myself - is it hunger or digestion? Digestion can feel like hunger but if I ate recently then I know I don't need to eat, but maybe I could use a glass of water. Unless it's too late at night, then I'll have to get up to pee. So, I just suffer til dawn! |
Drink some soluble fiber. |
I eat if I'm actually very hungry, but if I find myself with more bored/hungry feelings:
between breakfast and lunch: drink a cup of caffeinated tea between lunch and dinner: drink a cup of herbal tea after dinner: brush my teeth |
Any tips on how to make the salad prep easier? I'd love to do this and like finely chopped salads especially, but it is so much work and I haven't been able to find already prepped stuff that I like. |
I use a number of strategies listed above; chew gum, drink low/zero calorie drinks, sit and remember it’s ok to feel hunger, imagine my body is burning fat.
Most effective for me is to stay AWAY from the kitchen. This is difficult with an open floor plan but I literally move to another floor to make it harder to get a snack. I also will prolong my IF window by working out towards the end of it. Or I will go run errands out of the house if it’s in between meals to keep myself from snacking. I offer to take my kids to their practices and games so that I’m out of the house. I go outside and garden. Go visit a neighbor to chat or offer help if they are elderly. Take the kids to the playground. A million other things. This is obviously if I’ve already eaten the meals I’ve planned for myself and know that I’ve had enough food. |
I love this. Thank you for sharing! |
This is me. I work very late and end up binge eating salty, crappy foods. I've gotten busier in my professional life which has made my work load crazy. So I'm up all night. I might make more money, but I've gained so much more weight. I'm wondering if it was all worth it because I cannot combat cravings at 1AM but am unable to continue working while I'm hungry. Work is killing me |
