CTY Haverford — Cancelled one day before???

We were going to CTY in Haverford and just got an email that session 1 was cancelled.

We were going there Sunday, but now our 3 weeks of sleep away camp is cancelled. Our child is crushed. WTH?

That really doesn’t sound accurate. It’s a major operation — I can’t imagine them cancelling the camp with two days notice.

It’s exactly accurate. Call Haverford CTY or look on twitter.

I'm so sorry. As I understand it there remains a big backlog of background checks (basically every staffer needs one since they're working with kids). Apparently DHS or whoever does those is very behind. Some locations were short on staff, too. I'm not sure why the last minute notice, but everyone was notified at once. It really sucks.

Do you think it could be covid related? If they have a staff outbreak then that might force them to shut down. If they are missing a critical number of staff members that will make a difference.

Many of the CTY sites from coast to coast have cancelled classes ( two days before the start). They claim it is due to "nationwide labor shortages," which apparently they were trying to fix until the eleventh hour.

We also just got a cancellation from cty Lancaster. Cannot believe it. Also couldn’t get anyone on the phone to talk to us about it.

We were in the same situation, receiving a cancelation email this afternoon from CTY Haverford location. We tried to call the customer service number listed in the email. Of course, no one answered the phone. We are so disappointed about their operation, and feel that we can’t trust CTY at this point to consider enrolling our kid for their session 2.

On Twitter they're saying to send an email because they're trying to get kids into classes that are running. Sounds like a nightmare, though.

Just wanted to add that we are another family whose child’s class at Lancaster session 1 was cancelled. It was pretty upsetting as my child had been looking forward to this for months only to be cancelled with 36 hours of notice (due to “staffing shortages”- which surely did not occur to this widespread degree less that 48 hours before camp started.). I am thankful that we are not one of the families in the Facebook group whose children (some unaccompanied, some with families) had already travelled from the west coast or abroad and now have to incur the time and money costs involved in getting home.

It was also pretty terrible to get this notification via unsigned email- from the “CTY Customer Engagement team” and to have no staff answering the phones (waited on hold for 50 min before being disconnected- voicemail not returned) and no one answering email (nothing but an auto-reply in 12 hours and counting). I wouldn’t bother writing this here but I think the CTY PR team is busy trying to pretend this isn’t as big of a disaster as it is as someone is spending more time posting platitudes on Facebook and rwitter than reaching out to affected families.

They're not going to.talk to individuals on the phone about it. It's cancelled. It's not going to change. You'll be refunded at the same time everyone else is.
