SJC just announced their new president - Kevin Haley. The OC that left SJC after the 2022 season for a job in NC was also a Haley and yes, a relative. Maybe the original poster is on to something…

So they hired an executive from Under Armour as the President of their school? I guess Plank can do whatever he wants at that place.

SJC Lax just got better. Bad news for everyone else in the DMV.

??

Haley is a big supporter of the lacrosse program. He will push to take it to another level. Lacrosse took a back sit to football, basketball and baseball. Thats over.

Back seat. That’s hysterical. Scholarships to rich families and open recruiting of high school players leading to top ranking is hardly 2nd tier. Check the records and lacrosse has been the best sport at sjc over the last 4 years. This insures Speaks is out. He definitely doesn’t want Haley and all his buddies meddling in the lacrosse program. This is also starting to feel like St. Anthony’s and Montrose Christian.

Jealously won’t build what you dream for your son’s program. Better hope he has been hitting the wall and working out. Spring is closing in and there will be no more hiding. Great hire by SJC. You obviously don’t know much about Speaks/Haley connection. Lol. Dynasty continues…

You clearly have no clue of their relationship or how the athletics work at St. John’s. Coach Speaks helped Coach Haley get the job at the school he is at. He actually is proud to help his assistant coaches become head coaches. You also have no clue how many players have been denied transfers into St. John’s by the current admin. Those won’t be denied in the future.

Check the baseball and football records and championships during the same time frame and beyond. Baseball is the standard in the WCAC.

Well Dematha has hired a new coach - Matt Miller. Dave Mitchell stepped down. News is posted on Facebook and Instagram. Posts states: Matt Miller '08 has been named the new head varsity lacrosse coach at DeMatha. He succeeds Dave Mitchell, who has stepped down due to family commitments. Miller was a goalie on three DeMatha championship teams. He played collegiate lacrosse at Drexel University, is well versed in the storied history of DeMatha lax, and is very excited to now lead the program. Phil Lipka, an assistant on last year's team, will remain on staff as defensive coordinator.

"Family commitments" = this job wasn't helping me make more money with my club teams

Owning the Club hurts DeMatha more than it helps.

Yes DM owning NL hurt DeMatha more than it helped, to my knowledge there weren't a lot of NL 2026/27/28 players who were drawn to go to Dematha due to the club/HS connection, and DM being spread between NL/Mojo/Dematha I'm sure didn't help. I'm sure health and family played a part in him stepping aside but ultimately this is about DM wanting to be able to use HS fields either rent-free/sweetheart deal for his club teams and to be able to create a club/HS pipeline and he wasn't able to do that, so he's leaving. Interesting that health/family is keeping him from staying at Dematha but not stopping him from trying to join the Bullis staff.

What makes you feel Mitchell is joining the Bullis coaching staff?

Personally, I have never felt Dave was a stellar lacrosse coach. Look at his 3 years at DM, the program is no better off from W-L percentage from the time he inherited the program to the time he has now departed ways. I'd argue Scott Morrison (the former coach) was a better leader for the Stag program than Mitchel.

Dave is a business owner first and runs a great club program. You'd be surprised, most "Dads" could likely "coach" a NL team. When you have the best players from GZ, Bullis, Landon, GP, SJC etc. etc, you should field an excellent team that should compete at a very high level.

In Dave's credit he has done a great job building Next Level's club brand to national status from the time he acquired it from the previous owner. The college placement of the NL program is second to nobody and he deserves a lot of recognition for that.

DM will be an assistant coach at Bulls next season. From what I hear, he doesn't want to be the head coach, just an assistant with access to the fields for NL to use. Why commit to HS lax when you focus on $$$ with club team!

DMitch will never fit in as an Assitant Coach anywhere. He's a leader not a follower. He never should of left The Heights and its backfiring now. Heights was lowkey enough for him to be a Head Coach and not stir up any drama with his club.
