Bellestri is retiring in next year or two.

There is some truth to all of this but it runs a bit deeper.

Speaks was prepared to take the Prep job 1.5 yrs ago. Bullis also got in to the Speaks game and told him that JB’s last year would be the 2024 year and offered him the Bullis program once JB was done if he could hold on at SJC.

Bullis made Speaks an offer he could not refuse and will be the Bullis HC after the 2024 spring.

Here is where things get tricky. JB wanted to leave the program to his assistant. When Bullis basically told JB that they had made their decision and it would in fact be Speaks, the Bullis assistant resigned and is no longer on staff (you all can figure out who that is).

That is also the reason Prep would not schedule SJC. They know that the IAC will run through Bullis and Speaks for years to come and do not want to face his teams before they have too.

Now who goes to SJC to replace Speaks. It will in fact not be DM. Look for it to be their OC that left after the 2022 season for a job in NC. My guess is that Ince (current SJC OC) stays as he has a job in the school and Fyock (the goalie coach) rolls with Speaks as he has no reason to stay at SJC since his son graduated last year and does not work in the school.

Should be an interesting 2024!

I'm not sure who your source is but you are making some pretty bold statements.

Why would Speaks leave SJC for Bullis, I'm not seeing the connection. IMO it would be taking step back not to mention SJC has more resources to offer prospective families.

Lets look at some facts about Bullis:

After the 2025 class, Bullis program will decline drastically. Anyone who knows lacrosse in the area knows this. Bellistri can see it and I suspect given he is getting older, could easily step down into a lesser type of coaching position at Bullis (or even coach JV). Regardless, JB has earned his stripes as a HC to tell the Bulls admin when he is ready to hang it up for good.

No doubt about it, The Bullis 2025 class is extremely talented but its because of one particular current father (former board member who helped establish DC Express) who was able to recruit and push/ recruit several prospective players (who happen to play his son's current club team) to Bullis. Several of the Bullis 2025's came to Bullis under the Jerry Boarman regime when Bullis was blatantly extremely "generous" with their financial aide budget and have locked FA packages until they graduate.

The "well" at Bullis is running dry. Don't believe me, just how quickly their football team has declined since Boarman was pushed out and the amount of $$$$ has been reduced. The days of Bullis bringing in 5+ transfers a year and even senior year transfers for football and lax are long gone.

As for SJC, if Speaks were to leave for the college ranks, SJC admin would be foolish not to offer the position to Ince who works full time at the school (assuming Garret does want to be a HC). He is very well connected, a good coach and has connections with local club programs and relationships with several college coaches.

Speaks is not going to Bullis and Speaks has not been offered a position at Bullis. Ask Coach Speaks yourself, and he will confirm.

Coach Speaks is entertaining "thoughts" of returning to the college coaching ranks, but only thoughts at this point.

If he’s telling people that he is ‘entertaining thoughts’ about it, that generally means it’s more than just thoughts. He’s likely is putting feelers out there and having conversations. Doesn’t mean he will leave. But you don’t tell anyone you are thinking about it if your aren't serious about it. Otherwise I think you would keep that thought to yourself.

It does explain why Ince would turn down the PVI job. Maybe he knows what the plan is at this point.

Ince wasn’t offered the job.

As 2024 is finally here, a updated ranking is still too early but here it is: I took a look at rosters on IL and looking at commitments here it a top 10:

1. Gonzaga: Most complete roster
2. GTP: Solid roster
3. Bullis: Team will bet better as year moves on.
4. SJC: Without #1 attack this team may struggle.
5. Landon: Solid players can they get it together?
6. SSSAS: They should score some goals with that A line
7. PVI: Big ? can the new coach get the team ready? Can they fill the holes?
8. Episcopal: Big loss at G from last season
9. Dematha: Also big losses at G/A
10: Good Council: I think they can push to 3 or 4 in WCAC if PVI or Dematha cant get it together
Curious what others think

Gonzaga won’t see the WCAC Championship game, two other teams will be there.

If you’re making that statement then you obviously will think SJC will be there, but who’s your second team?

PVI? GC? DeMatha?

Switch Bullis with Landon, the Bears return 90% of their starters from last season and Kevin Miller returns from an ACL injury. Bullis graduated 6 out of 10 starters from last year's squad. STA should be ranked over both Good Counsel and DeMatha. I expect Good Counsel to be better, and unfortunately, DeMatha to start to fade. GP graduated a ton of offensive weapons (4 out of 6 offensive starters) but might still have the horses to pull off a repeat in the IAC.

SJC will be a wild card, if the #1 attackman is out for most of the season, it could be an interesting year on Military Road. Agree with you that Gonzaga has a very complete roster across the board, but they lack discipline and coaching is suspect. PVI stumbles graduates a ton, and has too much instability in the head coaching position.

In my eyes, I think this will be a down year for the DC region, I don't see any program that will sniff the national top 10, likely 1 - 2 programs will be in the top 20.

Count on a ton of parity this spring between GP, Landon, GZ, SJC, and Bullis. I think on any given night, any one of these squads could beat the other. Unfortunately, I don't see an elite team coming out of DC area this year.

Regardless... Can't wait for March 1st, expect some awesome games!

Not that much to watch in the WCAC this spring as it’s a 2 horse league.

The league drops off big time after the top 2.

The bottom half of the league is also extremely weak.

I wonder if Gonzaga will lose to a small public school again this year?

SJC just announced their new president - Kevin Haley. The OC that left SJC after the 2022 season for a job in NC was also a Haley and yes, a relative. Maybe the original poster is on to something…

SJC Lax just got better. Bad news for everyone else in the DMV.

Haley is a big supporter of the lacrosse program. He will push to take it to another level. Lacrosse took a back sit to football, basketball and baseball. Thats over.

A new president has much bigger priorities than worrying about whose the next head lax coach.

You SJC people really must have small brains 😉

Back seat. That’s hysterical. Scholarships to rich families and open recruiting of high school players leading to top ranking is hardly 2nd tier. Check the records and lacrosse has been the best sport at sjc over the last 4 years. This insures Speaks is out. He definitely doesn’t want Haley and all his buddies meddling in the lacrosse program. This is also starting to feel like St. Anthony’s and Montrose Christian.
