Yes DM owning NL hurt DeMatha more than it helped, to my knowledge there weren't a lot of NL 2026/27/28 players who were drawn to go to Dematha due to the club/HS connection, and DM being spread between NL/Mojo/Dematha I'm sure didn't help. I'm sure health and family played a part in him stepping aside but ultimately this is about DM wanting to be able to use HS fields either rent-free/sweetheart deal for his club teams and to be able to create a club/HS pipeline and he wasn't able to do that, so he's leaving. Interesting that health/family is keeping him from staying at Dematha but not stopping him from trying to join the Bullis staff.
What makes you feel Mitchell is joining the Bullis coaching staff? Personally, I have never felt Dave was a stellar lacrosse coach. Look at his 3 years at DM, the program is no better off from W-L percentage from the time he inherited the program to the time he has now departed ways. I'd argue Scott Morrison (the former coach) was a better leader for the Stag program than Mitchel. Dave is a business owner first and runs a great club program. You'd be surprised, most "Dads" could likely "coach" a NL team. When you have the best players from GZ, Bullis, Landon, GP, SJC etc. etc, you should field an excellent team that should compete at a very high level. In Dave's credit he has done a great job building Next Level's club brand to national status from the time he acquired it from the previous owner. The college placement of the NL program is second to nobody and he deserves a lot of recognition for that.
