Russia is in worse shape in almost every way than it was before Putin. He and his oligarch friends have looted the country for nothing.

That is demonstrably untrue as Russia under Yeltzin was much much worse.

Yeah it’s clear most people here don’t know anything about Russia

Just because Russia doesn’t consoom like America, doesn’t mean Russia is some third world backwater.

Russia was in a much worse place even 15 years ago.

Chechen war. Read up on how Putin came to power. This is the only way he knows how to hold the power. Anytime it starts slipping there’s this or that military conflict that only he can solve.

Exactly. Inflation in Russia is way worst than anything we're seeing in the US. Russia's economy is basically a gas station - and rumors are that the US and Iran struck a new nuclear deal, leading to Iranian oil dumped into the global market - which lowers gas prices. Russia is weak. Why else would they mobilize 80% of their military over Ukraine using the justification they are ridding Nazis and NATO?

Er...Chechnya WAS a terrible awful place, and things that took place there definitely needed to be smacked down. I do not support ground campaigns that took place but you should know that this place was lawless hellhole that spread extremist poison throughout North Caucasus.

Learn to walk, ride a bicycle, and cut wheat out of your diet for a few months.

Hope you have a ev.

The screeching tomorrow from Americans about gas prices is going to be a sight to behold.

Biden will not commit troops.

Ukraine is going to become belarussized at best. east of dneiper will be russia. West will be a new country, that will be influenced by russia.

The average American won’t feel that stressed tho.

Putin is not hitler or napoleon. People need to stay rational.

He has launched a total, unprovoked attack against a sovereign country - the major cities of Ukraine, including Kiev, are being hit by missiles and an amphibious assault has been launched against Odessa. What's the difference? Putin seems a little unhinged.

Unhinged? This has been his mission from the get-go, since his KGB days. He wants old Russia.

Hitler and napoleon were delusional who did not match their appetites with their capabilities.

Putin has done nothing of the sort.

As the saying goes, "No plan survives first contact with the enemy." Moreover, it is unlikely that you are fully briefed on any agenda Putin may or may not have. I wouldn't be too quick to downplay the potential for catastrophe.

We clearly have different definitions of what is catastrophe.

This is bad for ukrainian people. Georgia and Moldova should be worried.

But people thinking Putin is gonna March tanks into Paris are being hyperbolic

Who is thinking that? Ukraine will keep Putin busy for sometime so any addition expansion will not happen overnight. But, if Putin succeeds in Ukraine, he won't stop there. But, I think destroying a country of 41 million people, probably killing 10s of thousands, and provoking a huge wave of refugees that may well destabilize neighboring countries is a catastrophe by itself. If it spreads to additional countries, it will be even worse. You seem to think that this is some Russian version of the US attacks on Grenada or Panama. It is much more than that.

There are a lot of hyperbolic people who think Putin is hitler and napoleon.

Even blinken and Harris think so. They always compare this action with ww2 and totally glossed over how crazy things were in the balnaks in the 90s

They will all be fleeing? Or getting an influx?

It may also suddenly recall that a chunk of its lands was gifted to Ukraine in 1945 by Mr. Stalin, and they really were in no hurry at all to return these stolen lands. I mean talk about shedding the USSR burdens! Start with returning what was annexed in your favor.

USA should offer 41 million Ukrainians green cards and airlifts.

Lots of space in Montana. Ukraine is a huge wheat producer. Ukrainians csn help American labor shortage and wheat sector.

I believe references to WWII are in relation to how attempts to appease Hitler didn't work. I think it is a valid fear that attempts to appease Putin will similarly fail. The suggestion that this is the start of something that will spread beyond Ukraine is not the same as predicting Russian troops in Paris (something nobody other than you is saying).

Pretty soon the USSR will be back mini West Germany. If you are not part of NATO, you’re screwed.

No, because we clearly have differences in what is “failure”

I consider Russian troops crossing into Berlin as failure.

That is my clear red line.

The blob considers boxing in Russia forever and not respecting great power spheres of influence as “failure”

The blob thinks any change to status quo is failure.

Hence, why I don’t Putin to ww2. Diplomacy can still be had. But the us must be serious negotiators.
