Covid at UVA

Kids get sick this time of year! There are lots of viruses swirling around, and students are tired from being in school and not getting enough sleep, etc. It happens, and most illnesses are not covid.

I am sorry, but seeing your friends outdoors and giving your power point over Zoom are not true hardships. What about the generations that went overseas when bombs and napalm were flying? That is true sacrifice. I get it that prom pictures are nice, but the tone of some of these posts show how very spoiled we have become.

Where would America be if those who came before us were not willing to give even conveniences up for the greater good?

Zoom school is soul-crushing and by the way, it didn't get rid of COVID, so how is continuing it serving the greater good?

There was no vaccine last year. Zoom school probably saved a lot of lives, as did remote work. It wasn't fun, but now we have the vaccine, so we're back in school.

The holdouts who are healthy and just don't want to get vaccinated (not those with health or religious objections) are filling the hospitals. These are the people who need to get vaccinated so we can end this pandemic!!!

Kids are going to stay in schools and colleges, despite outbreaks. We're not going back to the way it was a year ago.

No one if advocating for everyone to go home and do classes on zoom. But UVA can afford to require weekly testing and should do so. They are putting their heads in the sand now. What about the kids whose mental health is affected by others’ reckless partying and symptomatic kids not getting tested in their dorms?

We can care about Covid, the community and mental health with reasonable, common sense policies. It’s not all or nothing.

This. And contact tracing and isolation. Test and test again. That's the key. But keep the schools open and in-person.

You do know that a lot of these "older relatives" are out living their lives as normal? Go check out any flight to Europe and it will be filled with many of these "elderly that we need to save" jetting off to the have the time of their lives. Meanwhile our college students are wearing masks to class and having study abroad opportunities cancelled.

And this is, what, a hardship for those po widdle kiddles?

Really, PP.

I enjoy wearing masks because I don't get sick nearly as often as I used to. And I carry hand sanitizer in my pocket whereever I go and use it all the time.

I have not been sick in a year and a half.

My kids wear masks except while eating. NBD.

1. Subhuman? Humanity quickly goes in dark directions when people hold those views towards groups of other people. Don’t be that person.

2. Get vaxxed, encourage people to get vaxxed. But if your motivation to do so is to “end” the pandemic, I am very sorry that public officials generally lack the integrity to have told the American public the truth. Data from countries that are more highly vaxxed is available. Dubious whether extremely high vaxx rates would “stop” spread. It is endemic. People can deny it all they want, I am very sorry that blue tribers often have a hard time with that, but your tribe lied to you too. Different lies than the red tribe believes, but still lies. *

* I am not in the blue tribe or red tribe. Tribalism is stupid. Politicizing a health crisis is the stupidest thing our country has ever done. If you want to mask your kid till the end of time, that’s your business. My kids are my business, and the blue tribers have become more obnoxious than the red tribers’ death wish. Vaccines are here. Get it. Statistically kids are safe. And kindly refrain from the emotional incontinence that has destroyed education for so many American children.

Yes. I feel this is a hardship for the college kids. No other generation in the whole history of the world has had to go through this.
You can wear a mask if you like. No one will stop you.

Different poster, not the one you're responding to.

Re: the bold: What ridiculous drama. "No other generation in the whole history of the world"? Seriously? Wearing masks, practicing distancing when needed, maybe even (gasp) doing both, getting vaccinated, being out of in-person school for a period of time with the advantage of technology to ensure you don't entirely lose all academic advancement--you make that sound like they've been freaking crucified.

Boo effing hoo.

The earlier PP is right. You are spoiled beyond belief. My DC is in college now and DC and friends would absolutely scorn your immaturity and drama.

Maybe the computer ate that line because it's so incredibly asinine.

You are a revolting vile person. This is causing mental health problems for young people to the point of suicide, and you and the other poster make fun of it!
Absolutely disgusting.

That's correct. It's called "first year plague" at UVA. Students come from all over the world and bring colds and flu with them. So it's natural that many get sick.

Many more people will die. It will mutate some time soon. College football games major super spreaders, because the Delta doesn't care.

Thank you Trumpers this is all on you. We will never forget your selfishness.

Yes, the vaccine does not work. Who funded it?
