They use individual subscores, so your DC didn’t make the cut if in Maryland . Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, although this year was extremely hard to qualify! Kudos to them for a great SAT score!

DC actually had two scores sent in, one was 40/40/34 which would have been 38/38/34 for the purposes of the alternate entry scoring (did not make the cutoff) and the other was 38/38/37 (did make the cutoff). The question is which scores were used. Either way, thank you for your kind words.

You were already told they use the higher score

This year is a mess. They are allowing students until October to turn in their eligible score but if you didn't get the form with your name and very little information in by April 1st, you're out of luck. Last year it was October for both, so it's odd to make that change. Schools also didn't do a good job of letting students know about the alternate route even with cancellations of PSATs in some districts. I know students who would qualify and are out because they weren't aware of the alternate route until it was too late. In a pandemic when there were so many things going on, keeping October for both to allow more time for all qualifying students to figure everything out would have been helpful. I'm not sure this year's NMSF and NMF will really reflect the best of the best.

Our GC called College Board today and our child will have until Oct 1st to submit the scores. She will not be included in any Sept recognition (school, community, etc), but will be eligible to move forward toward NMF -- and should feel comfortable listing NMSF in any ED/EA apps. She earned a 1560 in March in MD
She did not get any form in, and will still be eligible. Unless their parents did it without their knowledge, several of the kids told the GC department that they did not self-submit. It is definitely a mess.

But college board doesn't control who is eligible, NMFC says no form= not eligible.

That is what I was told by NMSC regarding my DC from VA who also scored a 1560--no entrant will be considered who failed to meet the April 1 deadline. It is definitely a mess if some kids who didn't submit forms get considered while others don't. Luckily DC has moved on from the disappointment about missing the April 1st deadline and is focused on getting the 1560, which is what colleges care about. I guess I'll lament the disparity but not tell DC to avoid renewed disappointment.

I would get confirmation from NMSC before your DD puts that she's a semifinalist on a college application. I would not want to have my DC accidentally put inaccurate info because they got misinformation. It might be accurate, but I'd get it from the horses mouth. College Board isn't involved in the selection process, it only submits scores.

OK, so a big thank you to those in the know here. DD and I thought she was set b/c she had submitted the form but she didn't realize she had to submit the text scores after taking. We found out when she asked her counselor today. We looked it up (again thanks to you), and she submitted tonight, so she should be good. How will they communicate that she made the cut off and to whom? Will they update the principal? Send to us directly? Any chance this can happen in time to update her principal when she announces semifinalists?

If you all weren't out there, we would not have known that she wasn't fully submitted and that we could still send in that score.

Go to the NMSC website. There is a number you can call to get answers. I wouldn't try now because the general announcement is next week so they might be swamped, but you could call in a few weeks. GL.

Has anyone with a student in FCPS been notified?

I just spoke to someone at NMSC and they said this information is inaccurate. She said students who didn't fill out the form by the April deadline are ineligible.

Maybe some schools have more pull than others? Unfortunately, that is how the world works.

That's very possible. It's also possible college board gave out misinformation. I'd prefer the latter because the former while realistic is still sad.

You can always call. I am the poster w/ the kid who got the form in on time but didn't realize they needed to submit scores as well (thought they'd pull automatically like PSAT). I've called twice and gotten clear answers with no wait.

The clear answer they gave was if you didn't submit the form by April 1, you aren't eligible. PP suggested their answer might depend on how much pull a school has. I doubt they'd clearly say that

Have any schools in Montgomery County notified students? I'm pretty sure the National Merit will announce the semifinalists tomorrow, so you'd think the schools would have informed the semifinalists by now. Or maybe my kid just didn't make the cutoff.

The cutoff in MD is 224
