No way he wasn't on something. He slurred in the interviews as well. You could see the other two guys were a little nervous/uncomfortable about him when it was just the three of them. He made some inappropriate jokes, was slurring, gazing ahead with an empty gaze, slow response time (a full beat behind the others). If you pay attention to the reunion, he hardly said anything. Some was probably cut to keep his participation minimal. Poor guy did not seem up to this at all. It was pretty awful to see.

It was awful to see and also awful that he presumably showed up on set in that condition and every one of his cast mates and the producers said, “let’s carry on with filming”. He shouldn’t have been on the show in that condition and it’s sad that his costars - supposes buddies - were complicit in pretending there was nothing wrong.

He probably insisted on going ahead and had a binding contract. I'm sure his castmates didn't know what to do--remember they had to work with him for years when he was regularly in an impaired state. From his older interviews it's clear he suffers from anxiety and self-medicates. It was up to the producers, and they should have rescheduled or simply delayed x hours for the effects of whatever he took to wear off..

The sad reality is that there was a fortune riding on the reunion special and producers noted more than once that it had been virtually impossible to schedule a night where all 6 were available. All involved probably felt their hands were tied at that point. I'd be mad at Perry but addiction is a beast and maybe the whole thing was a trigger.

I dont think we can really understand what's going on with Perry. I watched only the first half so far, and he definitely had a bit of his old swag, but LOOKED so awful it was hard to not focus on that. The weird slouch, the too-bright teeth, the strange gait - but then I thought about it. He's kind of always been physically awkward so whatever has been going on with him drug-wise makes him more likely to seem exaggeratedly awkward than it might for a person who started out with a normal stance/gait, if that makes sense.

I agree the others seemed uncomfortable around him.

I also noticed the other stars interacted on social media but didn't seem to on his. And he's doing that weird thing of hawking all that not-particularly-funny Friends related swag. He earns millions a year in residuals. Why is he doing that?

Matthew Perry has had a kind of weird, slurred speech for a while. This is him on Graham Norton from 5 years ago: https://youtu.be/NlX1ctNQk8I

The difference now is that he seems so hunched over and frail as compared to before. Remember a couple years ago he was in the hospital for several months do to a "gasterointestinal perforation". I think his health has probably been poor for a while now. I suppose one can only speculate why someone in his 50s would look so ill. But he does kind of remind me of how Carrie Fisher was at the end. She was only 60 when she died but she seemed much older and frail.

And she was using drugs.

I couldn't tell if he was joking when Lisa Kudrow said they all keep in touch and he said "I never hear from anyone. Seriously, I don't."

Six people who were average to below average looking in their twenties/thirties don't look good now that they're in their fifties? You don't say!

These are all people who are in a position to MAKE TIME if needed. They could have rescheduled if they wanted to and if needed. Also, there was a point where Perry says he hadn’t heard from anyone and they all make light. But it seemed sincere from him and like he was calling them out.

Anyways, the whole thing was gross and sad. I might have enjoyed it if not for the fact that one of these “friends” is clearly suffering and all the rest of them wanted to do was rake in $$$$ and resuscitate their now nothing careers.

I'm not a speech pathologist, but could he have a lateral lisp?

They were not average looking! Ross maybe. The rest of them were beautiful people in their 20s.

Seriously, this "reunion" just made me feel weird, because the show WAS SO WEIRD!

CC and Jen A. were so cringy it hurt to look at them. My God, what are they thinking?? Jen came across as fake and forced happy- EW EW EW.

Poor Matthew Perry- the guy is in rough shape, and it was hard to watch. I felt his pain thru the TV.

Lisa Kudrow is 57 years old- the oldest of the cast and she looks the best by far!! she has not screwed up her face, but she did not want to be there at all.

LeBlanc may be fat but he looks good- cute face, just needs to lose the pounds. He seems genuine and sweet.

David is odd looking, but was engaging and articulate, he seemed like he really wanted to be there, the others did not.

It was SO SO awkward when Matthew Perry said "I never hear from anybody, seriously" because he was not joking.

What a train wreck. I wish I never saw it- it changed the way I think about these actors and the show.

Sex and the City reboot- take notes!
