Am I the only one in the world that hates Breaking Bad?

Same.

I’m a woman and loved that show. Complex human and family relationships and a fascinating glimpse of descent into evil that can happen to the average person.

Agree. +1. Loved everything about it and didn’t think I would. And loved better call Saul too.

Scholars have written complex dissertations on the arcs of the characters in these shows. Saul and BB. They truly are masterpieces not just in my opinion.

I hated The Wire.

Me too. I tried Wire 3 times and gave up.

I’d like to read one of these dissertations. Seriously, I’m curious about why I was so drawn into BB when it absolutely does not fit in my genre at all.

Skyler ruined the show

On the other hand, I think The Wire is genius. I doubt anything will ever be better.

That’s what I thought too! Until Game of Thrones came along. Not really comparable so I should say that GOT is as good but not better than the Wire.
I liked Breaking Bad for the actors. Great characters and character development. Meh on plot and production. Definitely not comparable to the Wire. I think I liked Ozark more than Breaking Bad. Also liked Justified more than Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad was not all that.
But none of these are in the same league as the Wire in my opinion.

Someone who studied the show told me some people have negative physical reactions to it.

I never got into it either. Too violent and stressful.

Felt like the show runners settled on a mood and just kept it there. Which was interesting for a little while but then became tedious.

What's so cool about Breaking Bad are the character arcs of Walter, Jesse, Skyler, and Hank. Plus some really good bad guys. The dude that played Todd does psychopath really well. Over - what, five seasons? - it became this Shakespearean drama. I found it riveting. Satisfying ending so good closure. It really is one of the best written shows out there. And the casting was great. It might be a slow start, but if you binge it and watch as the story lines really get rolling, you'll probably get hooked somewhere in season two.

I agree with you about the character arcs. But you should have watched the 4 th season of The Wire! Best season!! Give season 4 a chance.

Yes, me too. Hated Breaking Bad, and hated The Wire. Shows for men.

Funny, I’m the woman PP who liked BB and The Wire is right up there with my favorites. Didn’t like GOT though—gratuitous sex and violence.

The Wire was very male but I enjoyed the show and didn’t find it as stressful as Breaking Bad.

Not a scholar but I’ve always said it’s because they were so good at making bad characters likeable too.

Okay maybe I need to try BB again. I’ve watched the pilot twice and couldn’t finish it either time. (Loved The Wire but did lose interest in the 3rd season).
