WL #3 or below for Lafayette, Janney, Shepherd, Hearst, Murch.

Was not expecting this - currently at a charter.

Wow - this is great. I applied at basically the same schools for grade 3 and our best number was #25

#24 waitlist at Washington Latin (our first pick)
Latin seems like a better fit but wondering how likely we are to get in with that number. Thoughts?
Take the bird in the hand?

How is this possible? We had BASIS as first pick and are waitlisted. Thought first picks were matched first?? Anyone know?

As I am sure others will point out, no. Not how it works. The lottery system was specifically designed to eliminate this type of gaming where people order based on likelihood of success. The design of the system incentivizes people to order true preference. The myschooldc web site is actually very good at explaining the lottery; you should check it out.

No, this is from when you applied. My kids are one number apart.

Your lottery number is actually a massive decimal. It is meaningless because in addition to being a huge decimal the "starting point" isn't 1 or 0. Hence, lottery.

Unless lists move over 100 spaces, looks like we're staying at IB.

Same here

What is your waitlist number at both?

Basis will almost clear the waitlist each year, including last year. Latin moves 1 or 2 spots max.

The above is not correct. Last year, by October, BASIS offered a spot to 133 out of 218 on the waitlist and Latin offered 27 out of 436. You should look at https://public.tableau.com/profile/aaron2446#!/vizhome/MSDCSeatsandWaitlistOfferData/MSDCPublicDisplay for correct info.

You gotta love the certainty with which people will post grossly incorrect information!

Good for you that your sense of humor is predominating! I wish I'd have a similar reaction. Mine tends to go towards how much I hate the lottery system and my feelings that the idea of winners and losers should not be present in public education. I'm working on being more like you as I don't think my reaction helps anything.

Spoken like an UMC person who grew up in stable home and doesn't understand that public education has always had winners and losers but in most cases wealth and zip code are determinative instead of luck.

If schools are not in person there will be much bigger problems.

Waitlist position #94 for Latin PCS 5th grade.

Clearly we have no chance. Oh well.

Second grader—(currently at a charter)
Matched at Eaton

#3 at Mann
#2 at Ross
#5 Murch
# Stoddert

Pretty surprised- chance at getting in off the WL at any of these schools? Just be happy about Eaton? (Which we are!)

Struck out on language immersion for K. Relieved our IB DCPS is getting kids already for a decent amount of time.

Guess you could say we got into MCPS.

Same. Guess I’ll go my private school route.

Assuming your child is middle school age? What do you mean by "reasonably convenient?" Will your child will be commuting on public transit? I'm curious what distance is so inconvenient it would make you move to Moco? That all sounded snarky but I don't mean it that way. I'm far away from that point with my own child but interested in the various factors.

For PK4, no preferences:

1 Seaton Elementary School Waitlisted - #12
2 Cleveland Elementary School (Dual Language) - English Dominant Waitlisted - #14
3 Garrison Elementary School Waitlisted - #30
4 E.W. Stokes - Brookland (Spanish Language Program) Waitlisted - #49
5 Mundo Verde Bilingual PCS - J.F. Cook Campus Waitlisted - #51

Any guesses? We're IB for Langley which we're happy with so the stakes feel low to me, but I probably would prefer one of these schools if we got in.

Powell: #52
