You called yourself perfect by saying you didn't act like OP. And while you may not have done exactly what OP did, I am 100% certain you were an active participant in a culture of bigotry, racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, or ableism. You behaved like OP at some point, you just can't admit it for ego reasons. I never said anything like OP either that I remember, because what OP described was not okay in my family. But unlike you, I know I must have said something hurtful to someone, or benefitted somehow by the power structures in place, because that was what existed at the time and I was part of US culture at the time. You are being blind in your insistence that you aren't like OP and putting your own ego ahead honesty. |

It's not just conservatives decrying the cancel culture & wokeness. It's liberals, too. May of the PPs above have said that they are liberals. We are sick and tired of it. And people are being penalized for actions as MS, HS, etc. But even if the action was as an adult, is reformation not possible? The current climate seems to be aimed at internet warfare instead of creating actual cultural change. |

+1 And I say this as a non-White immigrant that came from a colonized country. We need to know the history, we need to understand the lense we view the world from and we need to make today better. I feel many people do not recognize when they are being culturally racist but change when you remind them. The Karen's are usually just plain old horrible human beings and bullies. |

I never said them, but it was very common language amongst other black people at times. It always made me uncomfortable.
To the PP mentioning Big Bird. Sesame Street was introducing the concept of diversity. It took 30+ years to get from there to today. It was a long and painful road. Thank goodness for PBS looking out for the latchkey kids that had to be home to answer the phone when mom called! Random note. I liked Mitch McConnell when he first ran as a Republican, until he suggested cutting out PBS funding. My heart dropped and rage ensued. (Satire/casm) 
I wont post the terms but they were derogatory towards any race that wasn't black.  Not everyone. Eventually I gained a voice and shared that it made me uncomfortable and it was wrong, and it wasn't funny, to stop. It settled down, and then it stopped, eventually.
Change is hard for some things, and sometimes it is nearly impossible for imperfect humans. |
