| I just wish they would have kept a viable rec program. They’ve effectively forced everyone to move to travel for the club to make money, and now rec is a complete afterthought. Given the salaries they are paying their admin staff, you would think they could grow the rec program smartly so we don’t have to pay $2K just so our kids can play and have fun. Maybe it’s time for a new club to start up in the city. |

What do you mean a viable rec program? Are you suggesting that Alexandria doesnt have a rec program?
Also, when you say "given the salaries they pay their admin staff" what exactly are you talking about? have you even gone to the office? Their "admin" staff is one gal that does a ton of work, does all the spanish translation for families that require spanish speaking interaction and a host of other work I'm not aware of. I dont see any "admin" staff beyond her. I see coaches and more coaches and more coaches that fill the countless numbers of teams they have across their REC program, travel program, futsal program and other No one is forced to play travel. Rec programs exist at Alexandria and within several neighboring communities. |
| Yes, but they pay their Executive Director over $300,000 a year (look it up on their 990s). They fundraise off their broad community based program -- feels to me like they fundraise off the backs of the poor people to pay their senior team ridiculous salaries (higher than most other clubs in the region). I wouldn't want to be part of that. |
I don't know much about the rec program for kids in middle school and above - all I am familiar with is suburban friendship league. However, I don't know that a better rec program would solve our issue, because my son needs the three times a week practice and one game a week to get the amount of exercise he needs in light of his energy level. I don't think it would be fair to expect a rec team to practice that often. |
Yes everyone is aware of this. Its been a topick widely known and beaten into the ground. The Board decides his salary. Get over it and move on with your life. If you wouldnt want to be a part of it then I respect that and move on. Dont be a part of it. Some of us have determined that Park has turned this club around and his value is high to the club. It is a much stronger club today then it was when he arrived. I'm not saying he should get 300+ i'm simply saying he has done a good job and unlike you I want to be a part of it. So move on, stop whining about someones salary and take action on how you feel. |
Arlington is the same way, as are most medium to big Clubs. There is no $ made off of Rec programs. Soccer became a business long ago and no longer about the kids. Very sad what has become of the sport in the US. People lost track of what the beautiful game is all about. |
Large club’s rec programs are a cash cow. |
Nowhere near as much as their Gold & Silver teams! |
|
The cost to deliver a rec program with volunteer coaches and one day a week engagement with the player is a fraction of the cost to deliver versus a travel program that requires a high level coach with three evening practices a week and 1-2 games on weekends.
You are looking at the price tag for travel but not considering the cost to deliver the program |
Yeah, it all depends on how you look at that. My son's on black and my husband keeps asking why we are paying so much for a relatively low-level team. The answer is that we can afford it, it helps DS get the exercise he needs, he has friends on the team, and he has gotten better. Do we expect the red team to come calling soon? No. But is he a lot better than his former self? Yes. |
The board is hiding something. You should inquire... |
| There is a lot more thank just one person as office staff. Just for the sake of accuracy... |
nothing being hidden- 400k for a director and his assistant- magnitudes higher than any other non-profit club in the area. It's not hidden though |
Would you mind posting your FOIA requests/inquiries made (redacted of all personal information of course)? Or even just the text of emails and/or complaints you've sent? Not that you need to have done these actions to have a credible argument, but it surely becomes more sincere when you've invested some form of capital. |
