It would be nice for ANY information to be announced so rumors can be put to rest - either way. Really bad showing from the soccer clubs that are radio silent. |
When it comes to ECNL protecting a club that walked away, I don't believe that. When it comes to ECNL automatically awarding ECNL status within close proximity to its current members? I don't believe that either. But I'll believe a club's actions. Tell me... what have these ex-DA clubs done? |
Nationwide there are many top girls DA teams that have not joined ECNL. Would someone like to enlighten us all on what they are planning and when they plan to announce? |
Clubs that are staying silent are doing so to protect themselves. If they admitted that they are not getting into ECNL and instead are going to play in DPL or EDP, then they would lose their top players. So instead, they will stay silent or say BS like "we are still talking to ECNL," in an effort to keep players from jumping ship as long as possible. |
It does make you wonder the logic is at ECNL and how much input current clubs have.
If you are in the "don't let em in" camp, you're doing it to protect your loyal current members, maintain their trust, and restore their competitiveness. You don't care so much about displacing some current players to achieve that, that comes with the territory. ECNL may have some ill will here too in some cases for past indiscretion's that the public is generally not aware of. If you are in the "let them in" camp, you are after the largest and highest revenue producing league possible, at the expense of competitiveness. A possible future remedy for the dilution is a pro/rel arrangement with RL, but they don't appear to be headed in that direction. |
They are likely licking their wounds, doing damage control, and surveying their options. Those might include discussions with ECNL, waiting for expansion of DPL, surveying the value of USYS National League, looking at EDP, scoping out what a non-ECNL showcase opportunities there would be, discussing new league options with other ex-DA clubs, etc. With tryouts not imminent, they have a bit more time than if they were next month. This could take some time to settle out. |
Taking the time to explore all options and make the best decision for the near and long-term future is what every former DA team should be doing. The answer isn't the same for each club and even for each age group within each club. So it isn't an easy decision. Criticizing a club for exploring all options when US Soccer pulled rug out from under everyone is juvenile. |
They could play “friendlies” against local ECNL teams, national tournaments against each other, and other mixed tournaments (eg Jeff Cup and NEFC) against each other.
They could also play against boys teams. |
No doubt there will be a conference call with member clubs deciding who will be accepted. ECNL made it clear they will accept very few nationally. FCV, Arlington and MU will be looking at alternatives |
Unfortunately, after putting all of their eggs into the DA basket, they've been burned. I think it's fair to say that FCV is known more for their girls sides. To that end, then anything other than the ECNL for their girls will not satisfy many families. If they take this DA shutdown as a lesson, it would be preposterous to join any new fly-by-night league that arises as a result of this. While EDP is an option, it's not the ECNL. Needless to say, at this particular moment, ECNL reigns supreme. ECNL is also moving to a regional league model and will probably be looking to accept new quality teams to expand. Will FCVs leadership suck it up, and ammend relations with the ECNL? OR will they follow their egos and offer their families a subpar NCSL/EDP solution and risk losing players to ECNL clubs? Will be very telling how this situation develops. |
IMO (and what I don’t think other people grok) - it doesn’t matter what FCV does - they will not get an invite to join the ECNL. There are 4 other ECNL clubs in the area. Why would they want any new ECNL clubs (especially one that has a reputation for not playing nice with other clubs). The fewer ECNL clubs there are - the more talent there is for the (current) ECNL clubs. |
Right and since, with the exception of a handful of notable ECNL teams - literally probably 4-5, the ECNL teams in this area are middling to poor, they need to pull as much talent in as possible. |
+1000 |
There are some big clubs out there that are in the same position right now as the local DA clubs here. Tophat appears to be in the same boat - no indication that ECNL will offer - based on what I've heard. |
If they were $mart they would just accept all girls DA program$. |
