you can literally overdose on water. |
Go away, please. You are contributing nothing here. |
An overdose of any prescription or even OTC drug can kill you. How is this different than anything else? Once again, people have been taking this for malaria for decades very safely. |
+1. Plus, no one is advocating self-medicating with this stuff. But I hope that it soon becomes a first line treatment in the hands of doctors. |
NP here. So now you have a conspiracy against doctors hoarding it for their friends and family? You people are too much. DH could have hoarded sanitizer and face masks for his friends and family from the hospital but we have none. It's at the hospital to use when healthcare professionals see patients. |
why? we don’t know if it’s effective and safe. I surely hope we find an effective medication (there are several in clinical trials). but we just don’t know enough yet to say. |
It’s being widely reported that it’s being hoarded inappropriately. |
They used it in Wuhan and it is a Stage 3 clinical trial. For those suffering from lupus, I regret that I did not make this post from March 7 a separate thread as a PSA for you so you could be prepared: There is possibly very good news for those with lupus or rheumatoid arthritis who are on plaquenil, which is also an anti-malarial drug. Chinese doctors used it experimentally to treat COVID-19. It is currently in stage 3 clinical trials at the NIH for treating the virus. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04261517 https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/15/862229.page My understanding is that chloroquine was used experimentally for SARS and MERS, so there was prior experience with it for similar coronaviruses. I read somewhere that it had been observed that coronaviruses generally (remember they cause the common cold) are far less rampant in Africa and someone somewhere along the line a while ago hypothesized that it could be because so much of the population takes choloquine for malaria. So it became one of the treatments tried for SARS and MERS. |
Ya know what? If I or a loved one reaches the point of hospitalization with this horrible disease, I'll take my chances that hydroxycholoroquine "effective and safe," thanks. |
my understanding is that it’s been a drug that has been considered an anti-viral for a lot of different viruses, including HIV. Has not yet panned out but hopefully will now. |
but that’s not what the issue is. the issue is whether it’s proven to be safe and effective. |
Why does the coronavirus patient have more of a right to it than the lupus patient? Are you a eugenicist or what? |
Why don’t you use capitals, too lazy? |
Yep. I’m so happy I was able to get my RX filled for 6 months. As it happens, I had just gotten my regular 90 day Rx in mail. My rheumatologist office called me as insisted that I see if I could get additional supply. He said he was getting calls from pharmacies of shortages. I was able to get an additional 90 day supply by paying out of pocket. My regular pharmacist said that yes, dentists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons and the like were clearly calling in scripts for off label use. |
