Dear God.

Are we on the verge of a breakthrough?

No lie, I have been praying the following prayer:

Bless the minds and mechanisms of all scientists, practitioners, and authorities working together for the greater good of humanity on a cure. Allow scientific breakthrough to be released in the universe that will provide rapid solutions and help save lives. Support a spirit of collaboration and trust, with goodwill and accuracy in the work, comprehensiveness in the approach, and supportive resources to get the work done. Where there is evil, corruption, or selfishness blocking progress and a greater good benefitting from the work, remove those impediments, and replace them with strong, sound, wise leadership that can move things in the right direction.

I pray this prayer every day. I pray that doctors don’t burnout, I pray that cures are quickly discovered, that resources are plentiful and there is enough, without lack.

When all I can do is hope, it helps *me* to try to do it in a constructive way. I hope the universe is listening.

You and the previous poster both sound like lunatics. No wonder we are in the situation we're in.

They do sound like lunatics. And enraged that anyone dare question the words of the god-emperor.

OP has started more than one thread on this topic, with the same super-aggressive tone when challenged.

OP here. Get over yourself please. I have posted only once in addition to the original post. YOU, on the other hand, sound toxic.

Praying to a giant sky-fairy that your rotting orange lump of a president might, by accident and for once in his life, be right + Yelling at people who question your viewpoint = Yeah, you're a lunatic.

Go away, please. You are contributing nothing here.

An overdose of any prescription or even OTC drug can kill you. How is this different than anything else? Once again, people have been taking this for malaria for decades very safely.

+1. Plus, no one is advocating self-medicating with this stuff. But I hope that it soon becomes a first line treatment in the hands of doctors.

And that sucks for those of us with autoimmune disorders who now can't get our prescriptions filled, like me. So now I'm worried about weathering a flare-up while having the coronavirus.

Apparently, doctors are now ordering it for their friends and families and asking for it in larger quantities than anyone would need to fight Covid, which is something like 12 pills tops. The pharmacist ranted about this for about a half an hour this morning, and told me good luck getting it.

It's the new hand sanitizer.

No, it's not. There is a ton coming. It's not the pharmacist's job to pick and choose who gets to live and who gets to die. The pharmacist should call the prescribing doctor if they have an issue. Report them if they think it's being abused.

Yes, it is. People would need 12 pills to be treated for Covid, and doctors are requesting it in large doses. Why? To keep on hand for themselves and their friends and families and god knows who else? This is hoarding. Like hand sanitizer and toilet paper. If everyone took what they needed, we'd be okay.

NP here. So now you have a conspiracy against doctors hoarding it for their friends and family? You people are too much. DH could have hoarded sanitizer and face masks for his friends and family from the hospital but we have none. It's at the hospital to use when healthcare professionals see patients.

why? we don’t know if it’s effective and safe. I surely hope we find an effective medication (there are several in clinical trials). but we just don’t know enough yet to say.

It’s being widely reported that it’s being hoarded inappropriately.

They used it in Wuhan and it is a Stage 3 clinical trial.

For those suffering from lupus, I regret that I did not make this post from March 7 a separate thread as a PSA for you so you could be prepared:

There is possibly very good news for those with lupus or rheumatoid arthritis who are on plaquenil, which is also an anti-malarial drug.

Chinese doctors used it experimentally to treat COVID-19.

It is currently in stage 3 clinical trials at the NIH for treating the virus.

https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04261517

https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/15/862229.page

My understanding is that chloroquine was used experimentally for SARS and MERS, so there was prior experience with it for similar coronaviruses.

I read somewhere that it had been observed that coronaviruses generally (remember they cause the common cold) are far less rampant in Africa and someone somewhere along the line a while ago hypothesized that it could be because so much of the population takes choloquine for malaria. So it became one of the treatments tried for SARS and MERS.

Ya know what? If I or a loved one reaches the point of hospitalization with this horrible disease, I'll take my chances that hydroxycholoroquine "effective and safe," thanks.

my understanding is that it’s been a drug that has been considered an anti-viral for a lot of different viruses, including HIV. Has not yet panned out but hopefully will now.

but that’s not what the issue is. the issue is whether it’s proven to be safe and effective.

For the lupus patient? Yes, it sucks that your drug of choice is now needed during a pandemic for other patients. But you don't get the right to live while they die.

My niece is hoarding the drug for her lupus patients (she's a pharmacist) and if she loses her license, she will get no pity from me. That's not her job.

It's not called a "drug of choice" when it's not a controlled substance.

And frankly: why the hell wouldn't the lupus patient already on the med get "the right to live while they die"?

Because now her lupus drug is also needed during a pandemic. And doctors have the right to prescribe it to their sick patients as well. She doesn't get 'first picksies'.

And yes, a drug of choice is a drug that works best for that particular disease for that patient. It doesn't have to be a controlled substance.

Why does the coronavirus patient have more of a right to it than the lupus patient? Are you a eugenicist or what?

please stop inventing reasons you don't want this drug to work because we all know it's because trump advertised it.

Is Trump a medical doctor?

no, he is not a doctor so what? he is not going to administer it personally.

a lot of doctors are prescribing it. a lot of doctors were scoffing at covid in january explaining that it's was just like the flu. so was trump. but clearly being a doctor doesn't equal good sense or ability to adapt to circumstances.

A lot of doctors are NOT prescribing it for covid-19. Stop spreading lies.

The dangers of a bloviating, self-interested idiot like Trump spouting haf-truths about untested drugs in an effort to save his own hid are obvious. You're determined not to notice them? Fine. Don't take drugs out of the hands of the people who actually need them.

you are the liar. major Paris hospital has it as the first line treatment. my own sister runs a huge hospital system (in Europe) and they are using it. there many ongoing trials of its efficacy precisely because there is a huge amount of anecdotal evidence and some small studies that it could be very helpful. but many patients doesn’t have the time to wait for the results and their doctors are giving them the drug nevertheless.

trump wants the drug to work as does every single sane person. only a pathetic sad partisan will sit and complain that people dare see hope in a cheap FDA approved medicine. shame on you, you pathetic loser.

Why don’t you use capitals, too lazy?

Yep. I’m so happy I was able to get my RX filled for 6 months. As it happens, I had just gotten my regular 90 day Rx in mail. My rheumatologist office called me as insisted that I see if I could get additional supply. He said he was getting calls from pharmacies of shortages. I was able to get an additional 90 day supply by paying out of pocket. My regular pharmacist said that yes, dentists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons and the like were clearly calling in scripts for off label use.
