For the lupus patient? Yes, it sucks that your drug of choice is now needed during a pandemic for other patients. But you don't get the right to live while they die.

My niece is hoarding the drug for her lupus patients (she's a pharmacist) and if she loses her license, she will get no pity from me. That's not her job.

Which doctors? Where? How have their "results" been vetted?

Are you just hearing something on the radio and taking it as if it had gone through peer review? Do you even know what peer review is?

The right to try it is between the sick patient/family and their doctor.

Dear God.

Are we on the verge of a breakthrough?

Short answer: no. Long answer: also no.

and you know this based on what?

DP.

Most people recover, so this drug may or may not have made a difference.

where is your study showing it makes no difference?

where is your study showing it doesn’t make things worse?

i am not waiting for studies. at this point plentiful “anecdata” is good enough.

do you understand that we don’t actually know if it works until we do chemical trial?

I have a statistics degree from Harvard, thanks. you make decisions with the info you have, not with info you wish you had.

Perfect way to phrase it.

I wonder who and how they found out that this can work?

Understand too, that there are people here who want it to fail and for more people to die, as they see it as a way to destroy Trump - impeachment 2.0

No - we are hopeful for any and all drug therapies that will work and don't want more to die. Unfortunately, the President chooses to spew lies, inaccuracies and misinformation, so it's difficult to ascertain the truth.

the question here is whether it’s an effective medicine. The answer is - we have no idea.

jfc nobody wants it to fail. we want accurate and science based communications and decisions. which may include using experimental
meds as a last-ditch effort while we are conducting trials ... but this does not mean stockpiling the drug by people who don’t need it and will possibly harm themselves and deprive people of the drug who need it now.

And that sucks for those of us with autoimmune disorders who now can't get our prescriptions filled, like me. So now I'm worried about weathering a flare-up while having the coronavirus.

Apparently, doctors are now ordering it for their friends and families and asking for it in larger quantities than anyone would need to fight Covid, which is something like 12 pills tops. The pharmacist ranted about this for about a half an hour this morning, and told me good luck getting it.

It's the new hand sanitizer.

No, it's not. There is a ton coming. It's not the pharmacist's job to pick and choose who gets to live and who gets to die. The pharmacist should call the prescribing doctor if they have an issue. Report them if they think it's being abused.

Yes, it is. People would need 12 pills to be treated for Covid, and doctors are requesting it in large doses. Why? To keep on hand for themselves and their friends and families and god knows who else? This is hoarding. Like hand sanitizer and toilet paper. If everyone took what they needed, we'd be okay.

right, which has zero to do with the scientific process needed to determine if it’s safe and effective.

please stop inventing reasons you don't want this drug to work because we all know it's because trump advertised it.

Is Trump a medical doctor?

no, he is not a doctor so what? he is not going to administer it personally.

a lot of doctors are prescribing it. a lot of doctors were scoffing at covid in january explaining that it's was just like the flu. so was trump. but clearly being a doctor doesn't equal good sense or ability to adapt to circumstances.

A lot of doctors are NOT prescribing it for covid-19. Stop spreading lies.

The dangers of a bloviating, self-interested idiot like Trump spouting haf-truths about untested drugs in an effort to save his own hid are obvious. You're determined not to notice them? Fine. Don't take drugs out of the hands of the people who actually need them.

you are the liar. major Paris hospital has it as the first line treatment. my own sister runs a huge hospital system (in Europe) and they are using it. there many ongoing trials of its efficacy precisely because there is a huge amount of anecdotal evidence and some small studies that it could be very helpful. but many patients doesn’t have the time to wait for the results and their doctors are giving them the drug nevertheless.

trump wants the drug to work as does every single sane person. only a pathetic sad partisan will sit and complain that people dare see hope in a cheap FDA approved medicine. shame on you, you pathetic loser.

And, interestingly, Paris is one city that we are not hearing about in total chaos over this. Coincidence?

No cities are in major chaos, all cities are in quarantine. And France has more deaths than everyone in Europe except Spain and Italy, and its increasing by 100 a day. They don't have a miracle cure.

No lie, I have been praying the following prayer:

Bless the minds and mechanisms of all scientists, practitioners, and authorities working together for the greater good of humanity on a cure. Allow scientific breakthrough to be released in the universe that will provide rapid solutions and help save lives. Support a spirit of collaboration and trust, with goodwill and accuracy in the work, comprehensiveness in the approach, and supportive resources to get the work done. Where there is evil, corruption, or selfishness blocking progress and a greater good benefitting from the work, remove those impediments, and replace them with strong, sound, wise leadership that can move things in the right direction.

I pray this prayer every day. I pray that doctors don’t burnout, I pray that cures are quickly discovered, that resources are plentiful and there is enough, without lack.

When all I can do is hope, it helps *me* to try to do it in a constructive way. I hope the universe is listening.

You and the previous poster both sound like lunatics. No wonder we are in the situation we're in.

If I’m crazy for praying that scientists have the resources they need and somehow the universe will work to support good, then so be it. I’m not influenced by your shaming attempt at my right to believe. But you just may be blessed by my prayers.

LOL you do not have a degree in anything. 99% of the people get well on their own.

They do sound like lunatics. And enraged that anyone dare question the words of the god-emperor.

OP has started more than one thread on this topic, with the same super-aggressive tone when challenged.

I’m sorry I’m the prayer Pp and I think you are confused. I have never posted anything like this before. Usually because if I mention my faith, I’m attacked. However, no doubt my other posts in this thread you’ve supported and agreed with. There are many people that believe in a higher power, AND science. And true believers know that prayers don’t get sent up and played out like music in a jukebox. You should try being more respectful of diversity.

OP here. Get over yourself please. I have posted only once in addition to the original post. YOU, on the other hand, sound toxic.

Praying to a giant sky-fairy that your rotting orange lump of a president might, by accident and for once in his life, be right + Yelling at people who question your viewpoint = Yeah, you're a lunatic.

I’m a blue no matter who praying Pp. you are making us Dems/Independents look bad with comments like above. Seriously. I hope you are a troll. No political party owns a faith. Neither does a person. It’s personal. I vote for gay rights, support abortion, and I pray. Try to wrap your head around the possibility that there are many more like me.
