At 14 she was more beautiful because she looked normal instead of extremely thin

She's been a model for as long as I've been noticing clothes - decades now - and she was known for her "heroin chic" when she was young. = extremely skinny. That's when heroin was thought to have a chic (I guess? Things were weird in the 90s) as opposed to now when it's thought of as what people turn to when they can't get their other opioids anymore. But Kate's been there through it all.

This is what 'skinny' was in the 90s. The 'heroin chic' wasn't just about 'skinny' also about grunge, shadows under the eyes and hollow cheeks. Kate Moss had a slight build and excellent facial structure that, with a little makeup, could be transformed into 'heroin chic'. You could do the same thing to Twiggy from the 70s. Heroin chic is far more descriptive of today's fashion standards (Kaia Gerber comes to mind). Look how many celebrity women can't get a designer dress for the red carpet. https://people.com/style/celebrities-who-designers-wont-dress/

Guy here. Kate was hot then (and clearly had hips here) and she’s not now. I think this is a lot of women analyzing here. Plus, people don’t like to admit it, but the smoking anc sexy look added to her total hotness.

You mean white guy here right?

You mean white guy who still believes they didn’t photoshop her waist in to make he look like she has hips.

Dude you are pathetic... if u are a dude..

DP here (female). So, you think every image/video of her is photoshopped? Do you engage in other conspiracy theories?

A simple google search on "Kate Moss Runway" will give you a ton of hits for video of her walking runways. It's clear that she is not 'skinny' by today's standards and she definitely has 'hips'. She's definitely sexy. If you choose to believe that all those are photoshopped, well, I'm sorry for you.

DP...All I see is a very skinny woman with the body of a teenage boy.

That's not what teenage boys look like

Smoking and living a hard life has not done well for her concerning aging, but then again I think similarly of Christie Brinkley - who looks too much like an embalmed version of herself.

Christy Turlington looks gorgeous to me, especially in no makeup - aged normally, and (relatively) healthfully.

Whoa Christy Turlington turned into Tilda Swinton!

However, as others have noted, her hip to waist ratio is very feminine. She has a tiny waste and flaring hips. Anyone who compares her to a teenage boy is not familiar with teenage boy anatomy. They do not have nipped in waists.

Yes - she's waifish looking, but does not look like a boy. She looks like a woman who has a tiny but still shapely figure.

No she’s not “curvy” in the way the term is used, but to a tailor she has significant curves to contend with. She can look like a boy when wearing baggy clothing, like drop waisted pants and a loose shirt. But a close fitting dress designed for her would not fit a boy.

I find her very interesting to look at and believe that is why she's such a successful model. She has a face that people want to look at and obviously find it pleasing to look at.

Modeling isn't really about beauty in a girl next door way. It is the bone structure and having a unique look that photographs really well.

Many models aren't that 'pretty' if you see them with no make-up. But they take beautiful pictures.

Strange to hear people say that Kate moss had a hard face. She does have extremely sharp cheekbones (which is part of what made her so successful), but her features are overall very delicate and pretty, and very feminine. Won’t bother to get into the debate about whether she’s curvy or not, because I think some of the PPs here are just talking past each other, and mixing up curves with being full figured or having large breasts. Personally, I think it’s great that kate never slapped on a pair of fake boobs like many of the full figured models you see today, and that people seem to think is a healthy role model for women.

Finally, she wasnt one of the most successful models in history just because she had sharp cheekbones, a pretty face, and skinny body, it was the way she could walk the runway, thr style that she had and her wild personal life combined With the fact that she rarely gave interviews so seemed really mysterious

Nope, I have a skinny teenage son and the proportions are completely different.

I know your thesis is her shape only speaks to gay male designers, but that’s bunk. If you were to measure hip to waist ratio, of KM, the geometry is as dramatic as some of the curvy examples cited. I’ve altered dresses, although a larger woman may look curvier the percent of fabric that has to be suppressed for a skinny woman to fit a waist is often greater. The saving grace is skinny women often don’t need a completely cinched waist to look proportionate.

Nope, she is still shaped like a teenage boy. Maybe not your son but there are plenty of boys with that shape. We’ve all seen Kate in clothes. She has a boyish figure, including the small, almost nonexistent chest. You can try to bend it anyway you like but she looks like a teenage boy. You can try to find curves and call her curvy but she isn’t. She’s skinny, ribs showing and all. You want to believe skinny women have curves, they have don’t. But again, there is nothing wrong with that. Just own the shape and stop trying to make fetch happen.

DP. Christ, you need a handful of Xanax, girl.

Oh Miss DCUM, you never fail to respond the same way when someone disagrees with you and shows you up. Keep it up, girl!

I think she's quite beautiful, although not in a super feminine way, more in a visually striking way. Her body type certainly isn't something for young women to emulate, and mostly that super skinny frame makes models good walking clothes hangers. It's interesting that she is only 5'6'' and able to pull off the runway so well--that is unusually short for a model. But she has a certain presence and since of visual command that made that work for her.

Not symmetrical features at all. Show her picture to anybody from any part of the world who has not seen her before and do not know who she is and they will find her extremely ordinary. She is considered beautiful in a particular cultural context only.

On the other hand, show Paulina Porizkova's picture to anyone in the world who has not seen her before and do not know who she is and they will find her extraordinarily beautiful.

And yet out of the two, Moss had a much more illustrious career and is much more of an icon than Porizkova ever was.

I mean, there were literally thousands skinny white girls hitting the model market at the same time with Kate. And success smiled on her and not any other skinny white girl. There has to be a reason, don't you think? It's her face, not her body. Her body is forgettable by modeling standards, but the face is where it's at. It's the same thing with Natalia Vodianova - the secret is the face, never the body.

No one is denying she is was very successful. All I am saying is that she was successful in the cultural context of White America. If a person outside of America who has no idea of famous models, and is shown pictures of Paulina, Gigi Hadid and Lupita - they will find Paulina, Gigi and Lupita beautiful but not Kate Moss. That she was famous because of her walk and association with famous designers etc - s not being debated. She is just not a beautiful woman without the context of American fashion.

I feel the same way about Kim Kardashian butt, figure and face. She looks like a cartoon, but in the context of social media exhibitionism, she has made millions, due to a particular moment in global society.
