What club, Loudoun? Arlington? Both clubs have fantastic teams in CCL.

And I just call out sick for the VA Beach and similar games?

So with the new clubs in boys ECNL, there will be 3 SC teams, 5 NC teams, and 3 VA teams? Even combining two matches in a weekend, that is a lot of travel to the Carolinas. How much school will kids be missing for these weekend trips to league games? I'm assuming to get down there for Saturday games, they would need to miss school that Friday. What about for tournaments/showcases/whatever they call it? How much school would a kid be missing?

Waze-girl - we get it. You don’t want to go to NC. Others may have a different view. Give it a rest.

Seriously, how many days will a kid miss from school? Does anyone know? Any BRYC or McLean parents want to chime in? With the added NC and SC clubs it will be even worse, but that will give an estimate of what to expect.

I look at the travel for weekend games and there is no way in h*ll that I'll bring my boys to a Club going to ECNL. The thought of going to the Carolinas for weekend games is just plain awful. Sitting hours upon hours in the car and traffic. No thanks. I don't care how elite they make it sound.

I am not 'aging soccer dad' from the other thread because I have a U14 and U11, but I played as a kid and have older nieces and nephews and experienced the same cr*p about 'the next big thing/league' every 1-2 years. It is ridiculous. I get so pissed about what they have done to youth soccer.

And, the 'you don't have to do it, go play rec' people I would like to punch in the face. Youth soccer has effectively destroyed the rec program. Nobody is left in rec soccer. You have kids that don't show up, don't know basic skills and it's dangerous to put an older kid that knows how to play with kids that can't even control their body movements and don't know how to tackle. You get your ankles hacked and feet stepped on, etc. It is no fun if you are a skilled player playing at such a low level. So--you have to pay to play at some level and even C-D level teams at the older ages don't possess enough skill so at you will be driving. EDP is about the only thing I've found to avoid super long trips.

I have what I'm sure many will say is a stupid question and I should google it... If it doesn't annoy you and you don't mind answering I have an EDP question. What is EDP league? I have little kids and live in Virginia. I have heard of NCSL, ODSL, CCL, ECNL and DA. Everyone is saying they love the EDP because it's high level and no travel. Do any Virginia teams participate? What age does this start? Girls or boys?

Yes take time to google it you will get more context regarding EDP then will happen here.

That said, EDP is really more of league that serves PA, MD, DE, NJ, and NY. There are Southern Division but mostly for older age groups. Because of sporadic local club involvement due to the sheer number of leagues here already, ODSL, NCSL, CCL, CCL II, NPL, ECNL, DA, it is not a real U-Little solution.

The clubs locally use EDP for a couple of different reasons. Some play in EDP as a supplemental league and only participate sporadically for a fall or spring season. Other small clubs with excellent teams will play in EDP because the other clubs are either club centric and their club cannot join, CCL, ECNL DA, NPL for example and the other league options are not competitive enough. For these very good, more independent teams EDP offers competition but I would not say travel is less.

If you are a Virginia based team in EDP every away game is North there is very little consistent local NoVA participation.

My boys' VA teams play in EDP. The teams are all MD teams, very competitive MD teams, btw. More competitive than the teams they played in CCL and NCSL. 1/2 the games are home and all but one other are in MD. There is one other NoVA club. But, driving 40 minutes to Silver Spring or Bowie or even 55 min to Baltimore sure beats traveling to VA Beach, the Carolinas, New Jersey, Philly, etc. for a league game.

Yes, agree. EDP for the region VA is in are mostly MD, PA, and NJ teams. A lot of northern travel, but not quite like ECNL or DA. EDP, now also runs the old ERL and also competes in a National League for the top teams. It is a growing competitor to ECNL and is run out of the USYS org. and not the US Club org. They will take individual teams and not just clubs, which is one advantage over ECNL and da for smaller clubs. Often DA teams will leave their PT players on the EDP team and let them play a few DA games while playing full time EDP. Baltimore Pipeline and WSMD have such an arraignment as does FCV at some ages. Much better competition than CCL or NPL or NCSL, especially at the middle school and older levels. Example: Montgomery Rush Coyotes Blue beat McLean ECNL in 05G in finals of Jeff Cup last week. Rush is an EDP team. When Pipeline loans their 05 players to WSMD they beat FCV DA, when they don’t FCV DA wins.

Then try one of the CCL2 teams (they don't travel to Va Beach, mostly Northern VA clubs), if that doesn't work the teams in Division 1 of NCSL are good.

If you have an excuse for why your DS can't play for every league/team, then it is you that are doing a disservice to your player.

- We can't play DA, because there is too much travel involved
- We can't play ECNL, because there is too much travel involved
- We can't play CCL, because they play once a year in Virginia Beach
- We can't play CCLII, because the level of play is inferior
- We can't play NPL/VPL, because they play Richmond and Virginia Beach Teams once a year
- We can't play NCSL, because the level of play is inferior

The other think to keep in mind, is your DC has to make a roster! DA, ECNL, CCL, NPL/VPL teams are all top teams for their clubs. These teams are already formed and while there is yearly turnover, there is also a highly competitive group of players vying for any openings at all top level teams.

ECNL really makes no sense for the boys.
