Update on Harvard Lawsuit

"Alumni interviewers give Asian-Americans personal ratings comparable to those of whites. But the admissions office gives them the worst scores of any racial group, often without even meeting them, according to Professor Arcidiacono."
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/15/us/harvard-asian-enrollment-applicants.html

I remember finding this especially offensive so I am really happy that the DOJ took note of this as evidence of prejudice.

I don't know if it will make a difference for my Asian daughter who will be applying to colleges in a couple of years but perhaps it will help her daughter get a fair shake.

The other problem is that the bias seems to continue at school:

and persist after you embark upon a career (especially in STEM which is what my daughter is most interested in):

Exactly.

It's obvious that Harvard is changing the personal scores in the back-end to harm Asian Americans and discriminate against them as a group.

Thank G-d the Constitution has an equal protection clause.

Harvard will play the long game and defeat this.

You’re not a Democrat.

He might have been, but he most likely won't be anymore, thanks to Stalinists like yourself.

the goal of this was always get it back to scotus where kavanaugh can swing his dick around

That's going to be a long way off. And it's funny how things turn out sometimes. Who would have thought Roberts would vote to uphold the ACA or Kennedy would author the opinion on gay marriage? And it wasn't it Reagan appointee Sandra Day O'connor who wrote the opinion upholding Affirmative Action in college admissions. I think the guy who keep starting these threads is getting way ahead of himself.

Anyone looking at a demographic chart can see that we will soon be a suburb of Asia if we choose to let that happen. Either accept that there is some need for racial diversity or don't, but don't be surprised if "merit-only" policies soon result in elite insitutiitions that are heavily dominated by Asians. (see thomas jefferson high)

That's a STEM school though, and public. I totally support what FCPS is doing with TJ, but that result will not necessarily obtain at private liberal arts colleges.

So, you are saying we need to preserve "diversity" for ethno-phobic reasons and not because you want to uplift the downtrodden?

BTW, Asians here have NO affinity to their home countries (with the exception of few radical middle easterners (who consider themselves white anyways) and some communist-minded Chinese) and consider themselves to be American. So, fear not. We will not become a suburb of any Asian country.

It’s funny that people here think Asians are “others” when you are right - asian Americans for the most part don’t give a shit about their ancestral lands.

Meanwhile, the majority of Jewish people no matter how far removed they are from Israel are very aware about Israeli issues.

You just don't get it.

I am American but I am not a Californian, or middle American.., there are many different cultures in America. We are not all 1 in the same.

Good point.

And AIPAC is a very influential foreign lobby.

Finally. A good step forward. It doesn't mean they'll win the trial, though. Let's keep up the pressure.

Depends on what you mean by win. Harvard will retaliate.

The court has to choose to take the case. Probably appellate.
